Most Enjoyable / Least Enjoyable Gig 2009

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Purely subjective, of course, and I've deliberately avoided the use of words such as good and bad.

Most enjoyable live show for me was Echo & The Bunnymen at the Barrowlands.
Mac was in fine form, the band were tight, the set list excellent and the crowd well up for it.

Least enjoyable was the Sisters at the Leeds O2.
Band tired after a long tour and just back on the road after illness, set list similar to the last outing, audience divided - result average rather than good, let alone great.

Honourable mentions extended Imelda May, Camille O'Sullivan for intense performances and finally, for sheer rock 'n' roll The Damned/Motorhead dates.

So how was the world of live music for everyone else?

Best is divided between a few; 242 or Hope Sandoval probably.

Worst probably has to be the Sisters in Leeds. For somewhat different reasons...
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Quite an interesting coupla days overall, yup. Wouldn't have exchanged it for anything else though; despite everything else, fun was had. :notworthy:

Best, Grace Jones in AB, no doubt!

Worst, probably Muse, but that's mostly because it's not 'up my street', I don't generally go to gigs I don't want to see

Honourable mentions (of good ones - very honourable actually) should go to Fleetwood Mac, Health, Bat For Lashes, the Black Angels and, oh, I could go on really :D

The Sisters - Awesome
The Sisters - OK
Doves (this was last night - not really aware of them so agreed to go) Utter sh1t. And the guitarist looked a bit like that bellend from Travis. :|

Best. Porcupine Tree in Vienna
Truly a band that is beyond belief tight & sound levels were perfect (take note Mr E). Still can't get Time Flies out of my mind.
The Vienna show edges the Budapest one the following night, although we did get Radioactive toy in Budapest

Worst (not really a bad show, just the experience was not the best)
Depeche Mode. Budapest.
It p!ssed down with rain all show & it was at the Puskas stadium outdoors.
Musically they were stunning, but given it was summer, it was uncomfortable to say the least.

You all thought I was going to say The Cure at the O2
I thought I'd be a little less biased. The show was great though (albeit a potted Cure anthology) & the company was second to none.
Cheers.

It has been a very good year for me when it comes to gigs. To pick just one is extremely hard to do, but at the moment I'd say Bat for Lashes at the AB on Helloween has to be Nr.1! Stunning lady, terrific band, sublime lighting and enough drama to make it a mesmerizing event.

(Others on my short list are the Sisters in Paris, Orbital, Fleetwood Mac, Kraftwerk, Gang Gang Dance, Grace Jones, A Place to Bury Strangers & Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds)

Worst gig is even harder to point out as if it's bad I tend to forget about it...
A few that do come to mind are Them Crooked Vultures (not really bad, but just not enough to get me interested yu kno'), My Bloody Valentine (a bit bizar this one as I really loved the experience, but they were so bloody loud and their music could have used a more subtle approach... it was just sonic terrorism  ). The Orb's Lx Patterson sabotaging his own gig was also a weird trip... but quite funny to watch & dance to, so far from worst gig actually :P
