Ideal Holmes...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Anyone see anything of the new Sherlock Holmes film? Am assuming Mr Downey isn't anywhere near as good as Jeremy Brett?

No one could possibly be as good as Jeremy Brett in that role.

Haven't seen it but I've found it amusing that they keep saying that they're the first to be authentic to the books when (a) the Jeremy Brett series was meticulous about that and (b) they have a kick-ass Irene Adler as a love interest for Holmes (she was neither in the single short story she appeared in), their Holmes is all cool and dashing rather than a bit strange and at odds with society and they claim that the Brett-era Watson was portrayed as a Nigel Bruce-esque bumbling idiot.

If they have to update it (and therefore not stay true to the source material) then they should just admit it and stop pretending that it's something it isn't.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

That basically.

Do it properly or not at all.

PS did anyone see that travesty that was on the telly a while ago with Rupert Everett as Holmes? :urff: :urff: :urff: :urff: :urff: :urff:

I vaguely remember a bit of it. Probably the bit before I changed channels.

Good choice. I've no idea why I watched the whole thing, probably hoping it would get better.

It didn't.
