Ideal Holmes...
Anyone see anything of the new Sherlock Holmes film? Am assuming Mr Downey isn't anywhere near as good as Jeremy Brett?

No one could possibly be as good as Jeremy Brett in that role.
What!?! No Basil
Haven't seen it but I've found it amusing that they keep saying that they're the first to be authentic to the books when (a) the Jeremy Brett series was meticulous about that and (b) they have a kick-ass Irene Adler as a love interest for Holmes (she was neither in the single short story she appeared in), their Holmes is all cool and dashing rather than a bit strange and at odds with society and they claim that the Brett-era Watson was portrayed as a Nigel Bruce-esque bumbling idiot.
If they have to update it (and therefore not stay true to the source material) then they should just admit it and stop pretending that it's something it isn't.

Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Do it properly or not at all.
PS did anyone see that travesty that was on the telly a while ago with Rupert Everett as Holmes?

Good choice. I've no idea why I watched the whole thing, probably hoping it would get better.stufarq wrote:I vaguely remember a bit of it. Probably the bit before I changed channels.markfiend wrote:PS did anyone see that travesty that was on the telly a while ago with Rupert Everett as Holmes?
It didn't.
