Both are a rip-off - you're just paying £££ for the brand names in both cases.
Go for a cheaper clone of whichever takes your fancy (e.g. the Nokia E63 is a Blackberry clone - I got one free with a £15/month deal from Virgin, including unlimited texts and unlimited internet access).

Options:
1. Blackberry, which personally I like (i's got the Curve), although the company pays for it, extremely reliable, computer-in-your-pocket, good for lots of lovely apps (GoogleMaps, frinstance) that they don't charge you for.
2. Apple's latest incarnation of Steve Jobs' ShitInAShinyWhiteBox. Join the emo kids as they wear down their fingerprints on a phone the battery of which has the half-live of a mayfly with a hacking cough and a screen more fragile than a gnat's hymen.
No contest as far as I am concerned - but I would agree with Senor Lazarus about the Nokia. The Finns provide my personal phone-of-choice, and my pocket currently cradles the delighfully slim n'sexy 7510.
And here's 5 more reasons why you shouldn't go anywhere near an Apple product without the protection of 14 saints, a gross of rosaries, and enough holy water to float a battleship

Do you need to access a corporate intranet infrastructure?
Yes - Blackberry
No - iPhone.
Everything else is crap. You don't need to take my word for it... go buy one, regret it, then spend the next 2 years of life trying to justify the purchase to your friends and neighbors. Droid owners are just embarrasinfg.

The phone's got to be the one you REALLy prefer, the contractor's usually a financial choice but with Orange their ethics need considering.
or not

I've seen the iPhone and I'm not impressed.
I has a Nokia 5800. Free sat-nav, connects to wifi, Opera Mobile is available for it, you're not tied into Apple's "exclusive" shit-store. And it was free with my contract renewal.

all of what you say is true but i've yet to see a smart phone that is as FUN to use as the iphone.markfiend wrote:I've seen the iPhone and I'm not impressed.

it might not be technically as good as some of the others (although i'd argue with that) but the responsiveness and interactivity the iphone os gives makes it very rewarding & satisfying to use

Personally, I would go for a Blackberry. But lazarus is right, you're really paying more for the brand name. Knock offs are just as good from what I hear.

Me too! Avoid T-Mobile though, they're annoyingly unreliable.markfiend wrote:I've seen the iPhone and I'm not impressed.

Damn, I picked my phone, an LG something because it was purple and looked nice! Not really up to speed with applications and such...

iPhone all the way!
I've seen people using Blackberries and they're old fashioned and unpractical (not to mention boring). iPhones are fast, can do everything you'd imagine to want them to do (because someone'll have thought up an app) (and obviously cool ). They're super sturdy machines, and especially the 3GS has pretty much everything on it.
Go for it, you know you want one
