Cure to release huge b-sides and rarities collection

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Cure to release huge b-sides and rarities collection

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_83 ... theadlines
The Cure are to release a huge four-disc box set of rarities and b-sides in the New Year.

Join the Dots: B-Sides and Rarities, 1978-2001 features 71 tracks spanning the band's 25 year career, reports Rolling Stone.

Robert Smith says the band had no respect for artists who put out sub-standard b-sides.

"With the Cure we always looked for something that was a skewed version of what we did on the album. I'm really proud of our B-sides and I've always paid special attention to them," he said.
so

"Robert Smith says the band had no respect for artists who put out sub-standard b-sides."

just your a-sides are sh*te then? and those dodgy covers you have knocked together in 2 minutes for dozens cleapatra records' cynical "tribute to..." albums?

sheesh!

in fairness, i have "standing on a beach" an dthe b-sides to their early singles are by and large better than a lot of the a sides and albums tracks...

ahhh. now we come to the interestign part:
The Cure plan to follow up 2000's Bloodflowers with a new studio album next summer, and their entire catalogue will be remastered in the next 18 months, with each album padded out with an additional disc of rare, live and previously unreleased material.
so thats the reason for the box set? raise your profile in advance of the re-issued albums and "the new one"?

Where did I read the joke about calling the box set "Bits and Bobs"?

Like they did in the early 90's? The complete back catalogue released on CD and as a teaser you get the live album Entreat, but only from HMV, thus guaranteeing a chart return!

Now, all these things are pretty damn good to have if yr a fan, but it does beg the question of why the fook it wasn't done right first time round. Me is not impressed.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Because if it was all done right the first time, then they aren't going to make more money this time.

They're not stupid!

I have a lot of time for The Cure and while this latest campaign does seem a bit excessive, they will always have a special place in my heart for the Trilogy DVD. A work of genius IMO

You're a right bunch of cynical old whingers!

What is the problem??!! a gazillion bands have re-released albums, 'remastered' or with bonus tracks. So what?

Bob Smith aint sticking a gun to your head and forcing you to buy them, is he?

Some fans will lap these up, others won't think they're woth buying. life is good and life goes on.
