Manchester doorways are cooler than most

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

i have one of these:

Image

i use to it to carry my laptop to & from work in.

amazingly, last night i walked right past the god-like genius of peter saville

(manchester is ace for celeb spotting )

i tried my hardest to keep my composure, while he took a drag on his ciggie (like in the photo below, actually!) and stared right at me

it was only when i got around the corner that i realised i had the bloody bag with me :o

it wouldn't be so bad but it's a bootleg thing i got from some manc-specialist indie record shop a couple of years ago. it's not even official merch

the shame.

You've not heard of this in May?

Unknown Pleasures performed by Peter Hook's The Light at The Factory Manchester - Tues May 18th

Image

.. ..

Peter Hook’s The Light....

Perform Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures ....

Sequentially & In Its Entirety....

To Commemorate The Life Of Ian Kevin Curtis....

.. ..

Tuesday May 18th / The Factory Manchester / 8pm....

In Association With Mind & Keith Bennett Appeal....

Tickets : £19.99 (Includes Charity Donation)....

The Factory, 112 – 118 Princess Street Manchester, M1 7EN....

.. ..

Three decades after it was first released and on the 30th anniversary of the untimely passing of Ian Kevin Curtis, Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook has decided to commemorate Ian’s life and contribution to modern music with a special concert where Hooky and The Light will perform Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures in entirety for the first time.....

.. ..

Joined by a few guests for certain album tracks during the performance, The Light will run through the entire album in track order, beginning with “Disorder, following through with “Insight, “New Dawn Fades, “She’s Lost Control and finishing on “I Remember Nothing. It is also anticipated that other Joy Division classics may be aired at the concert following the performance of the album.....

.. ..

Hooky decided personally on the concert as an apposite way to celebrate Ian’s life and sensitive to the history and drama surrounding the anniversary concert, has chosen two charities to support from the event, Mind, the leading mental health charity for England and Wales, and the Keith Bennett Appeal, a charity set up by Norie Miles to help her close friend Winnie Johnson, mother of Moors murder victim Keith Bennett, to recover his remains, as the police called off the search in July 2009.....

.. ..

Both charities are to receive sizeable donations from the concert and further details on the charities is at the base of this release.....

The Factory is also planning an exhibition to coincide with the concert which will showcase images, artefacts and other memorabilia from the Joy Division days in the boardroom of the club. This will run concurrently with the concert and will also be open to the public for certain days surrounding May 18th. Details on this will be released in advance of the gig.....

.. ..

In what is bound to be an emotive and very special Manchester occasion, the Unknown Pleasures concert on May 18th will allow a fitting tribute to an iconic and much missed, tragic lead singer, and one whose influence on the city and its music scene has never abated. ....

Information On The Charities....

.. ..

Mind....

.. ..
Mind has been speaking out for better mental health for over 60 years and is now the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. We work in partnership with around 200 local Mind associations to improve the lives of people with experience of mental distress.....

.. ..
Mind campaigns vigorously to create a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all - a society where people with experience of mental distress are treated fairly, positively and with respect. Our local and national networks work with around 250,000 people every year, helping people who experience all types of mental distress.
.. ..
People who experience mental distress are always at the very heart of our work. We listen and make sure their voices are heard by those who influence change. We demand higher standards in mental health care and challenge discrimination wherever it occurs. With one in four people likely to experience a mental health problem, it is critical that Mind raise awareness and promote good mental health for the benefit of all members of society.

Paul Farmer, Chief Executive of Mind said “It is wonderful that Mind is going to benefit from such an exciting event. The generous donation will help fund our work to improve the lives of people with mental distress, including our MindinfoLine, that provides confidential advice and support to those that need it.. Our sincerest thanks go to Peter Hook and everyone else that is involved. By raising awareness of mental health we can help combat the huge stigma that surrounds it and show others that it is okay to be open about your experiences and to seek help.....

Searching For Keith

.. ..

In June 1964 Keith Bennett went missing on his way to his Grandmother’s house in Manchester. It was over 20 years before his mother Winnie Johnson was informed that her son had been one of the victims of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley when they admitted to a journalist in the 80’s they had murdered him. In July 2009 the police announced they would no longer be searching for Keith, unless new evidence came to light. Now Norie Miles and Winnie Johnson’s team of specialists have set up an Appeal to raise money for an official search to find Keith, and to continue searches for other lost children in the memory of Keith.....

The Keith Bennett Appeal team is made up of Forensic Archeologists, Geophysicists, Geologists, Cadavar Dogs and criminologists. All the research has now been compiled and a search is ready to be launched but due to a lack of funds it is in the very early stages and only part time.....

“Winnie Johnson and Norie Miles are absolutely thrilled that Hooky has shown an interest in the Keith Bennett appeal and included us in the Memorial Concert along with Mind. Keith Bennett Appeal....

this doorway was* a five min. drive from my hoose, don't look for it, it's not there anymore - I took a pic of it (sans Blue Nile) before it was demolished, but I'm damned if I can locate it

*the area is still 5mins away but an Elim Church mob bought the land then built a wee church of their own over it and all in one weekend - the power of faith Dudes, faith n'shit!

There is (or was) a pub in Glasgow called The Cellars (had my 25th there), which had the Unknown Pleasures design above the door. The jukebox didn't disappoint. They changed it a few months ago though :(
