National Soap Awards

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Eastenders scoops the coveted ones again. How? Such contrived storylines and schizophrenic characters. Not a single one with which I can empathize. Yet I'd happily buy anyone in the Rovers or Woolpack a pint. Northern voter complacency or more sinister skullduggery?
And you know that she's half crazy but that's why you want to be there.

Does anyone even still watch any of the soaps? EastEnders (as I believe it's officially called, complete with pretentious cApital iN tHe mIddle oF tHe wOrd) is nothing more than ratings-chasing. The BBC ought to have scrapped it years ago, and stick with its public service remit.

As for the commercial channels, well, they're no better than can be expected.

 I feckin' hate Eastenders with a passion.
The rest I don't care one way or another about - although I have spotted a couple of lovely ladies in Emmerdale Farm when my good lady wife has been watching. :P

I've been watching Soaps ever since I grew out of Doctor Who. Quite apart from their undemanding, easy-on-the-eye, broad appeal entertainment value, I believe they are able to reflect and affect society in a positive way. Eastenders genuinely changed attitudes to Aids in the 90s with Mark Fowler's storyline. They provide many families with entry points to discuss important issues which may one day impact their lives but which they may otherwise find difficult to approach. Soaps are about life and people. And as you know, I'm a real people person.

Discovery's pish, you want National Geographic, that's the Real Thing. :notworthy:
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I'm still vaguely surprised that no-one picked me up on this outrageous piece of snobbery! ;D
