Enlightened words from the Gang of 4

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Asking fans to pay for the recording and release of the album was a risk, but was a better option than signing a traditional deal with a major label, Gill said.

"If you go to them, they'll give you a very small royalty, they'll own the copyright and they want to take income from every aspect of everything you do. And who wants to do that?

"The only way forward is to self-release."

He's a dinosaur attached to dying paradigm. The Melvins (!) recently broke into the top 200 by selling a little over 2000 records--that shows how the industry has changed. Von doesn't seem willing to engage the fact that it has been fundamentally transformed. I seem to recall someone on here saying that he's also hostile to the modern technology that would make his (musical) life much, much easier, which would follow out the same pattern.

It's not even a new idea. Marillion first did it ten years ago and there have been others since.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Its also on the cards for the march violets, and they did the trinity thing for the homecoming too, so maybe some of the good ideas will filter through the water in Leeds?????? Who am I kidding?

Indubitably. There will never be another TSOM record (though I'd love to be proven wrong in this regard).

First of all though, someone has to WANT to release new music. Until that criteria is fulfilled nothing will happen.
And if you know that you are burned out this will never happen.
Why release anything new if you can still live on being a has-been touring nostalgia show.
And yes, nostalgia show, the "new" songs are still about 10 years old.

And yes I am beating a dead horse, over and over again. Sorry about that.

True enough. No need to apologise.

Actually I read somewhere an article blaming the global banking crisis on Bowie.

The argument was something like this: Bowie bonds were effectively him selling off his future earning potential (from pre-1990 albums and songs) in bond form. This gave some smart Alec at one of the banks an idea. Fast-forward 10 years...
