First single you ever bought?
I would love to be able to say it was Are Friends Electric? by Tubeway Army, but I can't. It was Bugs Bunny Sings.
To not know and to ask a question is a moment of embarrassment; to not know and not ask is a lifetime of shame.
I've always been a more albums person than that singles one so it's no wonder that I own a very few of them in my collection. The first and also the last single I bought myself was that Electronic's "Disappointed" one from 1992.I'm getting them mostly from my friends and relatives who are well informed about my musical taste.

T Rex - Ride A White Swan in Boots big Glasgow store with a 'Boots Gift Voucher' I got for Christmas many, many years ago. I remember being most impressed that the b-side had 2 tracks on it.

I can't remember the first single I ever bought, but the first song I remember thinking was very good was West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys. That is still a great record. And I still don't think they have come close to anythig that good since.

That's great My first album I bought for my own hard earned money was Kiss: Destroyer. I'm not sure I've ever been that happy since. ...well, I have. But still.vicus wrote:KISS - I was made for lovin' you
And from there, from Destroyer, it's been one long and winding road of glam, Bowie, german death metal, canadian avant-industrial music, that eventually lead to the Sisters, just in time to see them split up and form two separate Sisterhoods.
SNAP! (But from Woolworth's in Hoxton- there was one then)Red Sunsets wrote:T Rex - Ride A White Swan in Boots big Glasgow store with a 'Boots Gift Voucher' I got for Christmas many, many years ago. I remember being most impressed that the b-side had 2 tracks on it.
And I love it to this day

Giles Smith is quite funny on this. We all, apparently, have an 'official' answer to this (what we would have LIKED to have bought first), and a 'true' answer.
Mine aren't that far apart in artist, but they are in taste
Official: Kraftwerk, the Model
True: Kraftwerk, Tour de France.
And yes, I had a lot of Pet Shop Boys records too. I may buy the best of. The best male English pop band for twenty years, I venture?

Well, y'know, I never used to buy singles until much much later, so I'm proud as punch to say it was actually "Alice"!!! Not joking.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
