Heartland on Twitter (split from the Von/Twitter thread)

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Police!
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

quick update:

i've added a bit of functionality to the @heartlandforum twitter account so that it automatically tweets recent posts... :D

i'm still playing with the config but at the moment its looking like it will tweet the last 3 threads that have been updated, every half hour.

i'll see how that pans out over time, and maybe revise the number of posts or the intervals accordingly.

it's a fine line between being of genuine use and just spamming... :|

all tweets will be set with the hastags #sisters and #eldritch to increase our findability ;)

watch this space :von:

@QB: How about moving over to the "Currently Geeking..." thread and explaining the technical workings?

Would it be a good idea to exclude General Chat, Weeding & Joke of the Day from the feed?

Easiest way would be to combine all the other RSS feeds into 1 feed (using Yahoo Pipes?) then feed this aggregated feed into TwitterFeed.

i'm using an old mod because we're still on phpbb2

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 5&t=349668

out of the box it doesnt exclude specific forum areas, but i may look into it...

as well as the Trading and Sharing section and the whole Sisters Forum and System Forum things ... Sisters Chat should be sufficient, IMHO ...

trading is ok but weeding and sharing are only viewable to logged in members, so the twitterfeeds script doesnt have permission to see them, even if i wanted to share those...

done a bit of tweaking and it now uses the following feed:

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_ ... render=rss

which is created by merging these feeds:

http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=2 (Sisters Chat)
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=3 (Reviews and Interviews)
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=4 (Trading)
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=5 (Sisters FAQs)
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=11 (Sisters Resources)

pipes gets a bit messy if you try to merge more than 5 at once, but at some point i'll see if i can get these added to :)

http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=7 (Feedback)
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=8 (Announcements)
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=9 (Lyrics)
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/rss.php?f=12 (Where are they now?)

which should pretty much cover all sisters-related stuff :)

cheers laz ;)

Nicely done ... :D ... :notworthy: ...

BUT: honestly, I don't think it necessary to inform everybody on Twitter
when I ask to have spam deleted from the Wiki or pics checked for upload in the Gallery ... ...

So at least the Feedback section should rather not be linked there ...
also because it refers to all HL-related issues and not only to The Sisters ... :?:
