Preamble:
I couldn't imagine that a Wake VHS transfers looks better than my LD version so Mr. Blast was kind enough to sent me a copy of his VHS-Rips. Today we will take a look at the image quality wichfore I've uploaded a few screener (Images may need some time to load due to the large filesizes):
Laserdisc Sample 1:
VHS Sample 1:
Laserdisc Sample 2:
VHS Sample 2:
Laserdisc Sample 3:
VHS Sample 3:
Laserdisc Sample 4:
VHS Sample 4:
Laserdisc Sample 5:
VHS Sample 5:
Now let's zoom in here to compare the details:
Laserdisc:
VHS:
Conclusion:
To my surprise I've to say that the VHS sourced rip offers the best image quality. TBH there's not much of a difference to see at all but the VHS version looks slightly sharper to me. My LD version is transfered by F.W. - I also have a "Antisohal" version wich looks a bit less sharper. Finally this F.W. Rip is the best LD source I could use for this comparison. I think we need to get used that these LD versions are not the best choice in terms of quality even if the Laserdisc technology looks way better than VHS on the spec sheet. I assume that the Wake LD has been produced sloppy - maybe a simple transfer from a VHS copy instead from master or whatever, probably not even an official release but I don't know that for shure.

What've I done now? Should I mention I didn't pay for it, and it was passed to me by a non-Sissies fan who couldn't care less?James Blast wrote:Timothy, you utter c**t!
