THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.
What kind of band do you think fits on Blackest of the Black?
Anything dark. So it doesn’t have to be, like, black metal or anything like that. It just has to be something dark. So a band like Sisters of Mercy would be fine for it. And then you have a band like Dimmu Borgir or Marduk who would be fine for it, also. That’s how we approach it.
I realize that this isn't saying that Danzig has even necessarily been in contact with the band, but it would be an interesting lineup.
I quite like Glen, when he's not being overly po-faced (ie, not very often). I don't think he has a cat in hell's chance in getting The Sissies on that tour, and I doubt very much he has any idea what they sound like now as it is.
Hank's story about the Sisters playing with Flag remains quite funny though.

I'd love more details. I've always heard references, but I can't be bothered to go read any of Hank's books.

The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one that removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are viable, that removes the sense that there is an outside.

Black Coffee Blues is one of the most depressing volumes I have ever read. Wind In The Willows it is not.
'Solipsist' and 'Eye Scream' are far grimmer. 'Do I come Here Often - Black Coffee Blues Pt. 2' has two fantastic interviews with Isaac Hayes and Jerry Lee Lewis and it's since then that he ended the Rollins Band and does Spoken Word tours instead, which for anyone who's been to one you'll know how fantastic they are
Initials CC and that bloke who wrote Who Killed Martin Hannet also make refs. to "Sisters of Mercy"
both most enjoyable tomes
BTW - there's tons of spoken word Hank on Spotty
"And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere".
~ Peter Steele

Agreed.
Get in the Van is my favourite of his books, followed by the one where we tours the Black Flags songs to raise awareness/funds for the West Memphis 3 (I think its called Broken Summers). He gives Eldritch a fair bit of credit for getting to the end of their support set, saying many lesser bands crumbled under the same circumstances

We drive to Florida after the show tonight. A long sweaty night after the long sweaty set. No real sleep for a good long time. Oh f**k, the Sisters are soundchecking with "Purple Haze". I just did something funny. I yelled at them, "Leave Hendrix's ass alone, you limey fags!" They stopped playing and looked at me. That was the funniest thing i've seen in a while.
8.11.84 Miami FL: The show at the Ritz was one of the best ones we've ever played. The best part was seeing the poor Sisters trying to maintain their pose with the front row trying to beat the s**t out of the singer, swinging at his head and s**t. What great crowds we get. After the show, this kid told us we could shower at his place and that it was on the way. We drove all over the f**king place until daybreak and found out that it was out of the way and his mother wouldn't let us take a step inside. We drove about 30 hours to Tampa and played this outdoor place and it was okay. Crowd was kind of f**ked but whatever. Now we're in a dive in Miami. I have some days off coming. I'm going up to DC.
Later: A girl shoved four one dollar bills down my shorts during our set. That's cool. I dried them off and bought myself dinner.
I am drowning, but it's my own hands that are pulling my feet to the bottom. I seem unable to stop myself from killing myself. It's a continuous drowning process.
in a slightly more generous mood some years later, Mr. Rollins did play the Dominion (I think) Video on an MTV picks show. Comments along the lines of: I don't like 'em, but respect to Eldritch for making it through a Flag support slot.

From "Smile, You're Travelling" in the entry 12-3-98, Hank is doing something for MTV2 & he has to pick some videos. Lucretia is one of them, of which he says "Never heard the song, never saw the video, but you gotta love the Sisters guy. I respect him for getting through his set when opening for Black Flag in 1984 and having the audience try to disembowel him. Oh, the hatred! Oh, Lucretia!"
