Ulterior
Mentioned a few times on here. Supported the Sisters etc etc.

O Children
At times a bit like a disco Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. At times, not. Interesting to hear a black guy sing very naturally in the tombstone baritone most Goth artists have to squeeze out.

Zola Jesus
Saw her in Leeds a couple of nights ago. Was heartily impressed. Like an Industrialised Dead Can Dance. Big, cinematic soundscapes and an huge voice from a tiny little lady.

Black Moth (aka The Bacchae)
This band is about to change their name, thus the "aka". We're putting them on at the Gothsoc intro gig in Leeds in a few weeks. Nice blend of the noir theatricality that characterised early Goth and a raw garage rock sound.

I read about Zola Jesus for the first time in the Metro this week... and initially I thought, hey hey, this sounds right up my street. But I have a feeling she might be just another case of "looks good on paper" - like so many of the other attempts at a Goth revival. Everything that made the originals interesting and exciting sucked out by the forces of irrelevance.
I'd like to be wrong and I will give her a listen, but I fear I'm not. Anyone else remember "New Grave" from the late 90's? Exactly.
I'm tempted to quote Bill Drummond at this point:
All recorded music has run its
course.
It has all been consumed,
traded, downloaded,
Understood, heard before,
sampled, learned,
Revived, judged and found
wanting.
Year zero now.

thx for the tips
O children is sounding really good.
Zola Jesus can be a lot of things, it is one of those things you have to hear a couple of times to see where it is going, first listen is promising. and I see they are playing in Gent next week, so i might have a look.

I didn't pick her out on first listen. I did get essence of Sioux & perhaps a dash of Fraser.
But you're not wrong with FGG.
