best sci-fi movie?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

What's your favourite ever sci-fi movie? I mean, ever and i mean, real good movies like Kubrick's (and Arthur C. Clarke's) 2001: A Space Odyssey, NOT garbage like the Phantom Menace or Street Fighter.

There are a few for me, and it's a close call, but my favourite is still Blade Runner. The story, the ambience, the coldness and alienation, Rutger Hauer and Harrison Ford, Vangelis love theme song, everything. Truly great and beautiful.

What's yours?

If you say The Matrix or Star Wars i'll be forced to pay someone to hunt you down and shoot you like the completely clueless geeky nerd you are, don't make me spend all that money please.

Dune

The David Lynch version, long cut. I watch it everytime and I mean everytime it's on tv.

2001 - I can't think of a more thought provoking sf film. And it looks fantastic.

Having Rigsby in it helps as well.

That's the one with Sam Neill in it, right? He makes a very scary bad guy.

Well, whilst its your thread Zig.... stuff you all the same ;)

Star Wars..... helped save cinema for a start... undoubtably astonishing effects for its time and undeniably space opera swashbucklingness at its best (ok, ok, .... imho).

Having said that i think there have been many good things since that have been far more scientifically correct, less family orientated and cerebral, (which im sure most of the people on this list would prefer to see thos films next to their names....) but my completely UNASAHAMED favourate sci-fi film is, and i suspect ever will be Star Wars.

After that.... Alien, Aliens, STMP, Forbidden Planet, The Black Hole (odd one for Disney to make that one..), Tron.

Babylon 5 roolz too before i forget.

Hope i havnt offended you types that know better than me and only watch "serious" hi fi.

Favorate Scifi film but you can have Star Wars = Oxymoron!

;)

Star Trek The Motion Picture..... probably a more unpopular choice that Star Wars, but the re-edited version works a treat!
