I'm just asking because it happened to me and my laptop hates it: you don't by chance happen to accidentally have left a CD in the drive?Hom_Corleone wrote: The copy of XP was loaded on over for 4 years ago and has been fine up until now.
I think I may need professional help (For the laptop as well).
Geek help needed!
Didn't see the point in launching a new "help needed" thread so I'll tack my plea on here.
A while ago I upgraded from an 80gb iprod to a 160gb model. My music folder is kept on a 120gb external HDD & so it was inevitable that I would have to move it at some point to a larger home.
At the weekend I did just that. I copied 110gb to some space on another external HDD & used the advanced settings in ichoons to change the path of the "new" music folder.
Dutifully I unplugged the little HDD & fired up ichoons. Could it see the songs? Could it buggery!
I looked around on't webby & discovered that I did this all wrong, as my library file will still look for the original files & that the way to do this (after 30 hours of copying from one drive to another) was to change the path (check) & use the "consolidate library". That is supposed to copy all the files to the new folder.
So I binned the copied files & used the consolidate option. Needing to get the drive off & go to work the next day, I stopped the activity & restarted it when I got home that evening.
What I now end up with is ichoons copying stuff that is already copied & giving it a new name (eg. You Could Be The One 1.m4a in addition to You Could Be The One.m4a)
Ichoons now only sees the "xyz 1" files & I've scoured the webby for help but no joy really.
Anyone got any idea how I can get rid of the duplicate tracks using ichoons or am I going to have to manually bin them?

That looks the most promising hint so far.

Just found an easier way using automator
Step #1 - Open Automator, and first use "Find Finder Items" in your iTunes Music Folder to find file's whose names end with " 1.mp3", " 1.m4p", " 1.m4a", or " 1.wav", etc. I thought it important to use 'ends with' and the file extension, rather than 'contains' and " 1." to prevent accidents, but either would work I suppose. I also added the space before the number one for the same reason.
Step #2 - "Move Finder Items" to a new folder that you created, let's call it "Temp Trash". Automator has a "Move Finder Items to Trash" function, but my music files are stored on a server and they'd be deleted immediately. I wanted to put them in a temporary folder so I could look through them one time before I deleted them permanently.
Then all I need to do is drag the non duplicated stuff back into ichoons & go away for the weekend while it runs
