Me and Big Si just saw The Lemmy Movie

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

It's not that much different from the Channel 5 doc of a few years back. Apart from the interviews with of a lot of American Celebrities and Musicians, it reminded me of the Metallica doc they brought out after the 'black' album. It needed more footage of Phil and Mikkey who I hear are not happy at being cut out of it.

Got the DVD on pre-order - there's apparently about four hours of extras.

Going to risk me neck here...but does Lemmy do anything beyond the traditional sex, drugs and rock n' roll and loud music thing that would make a bio anyway particularly interesting? I've read a few interviews and he does come up with the occasional good quote but other than perhaps stick to his musical guns am curious to know why as a person he would make an interesting movie subject? At this point I run and hide! ;D

Some would say sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll are reasons enough for it to make an interesting film.
Beyond that, it's both something of a minor miracle and medical mystery that Lemmy is still alive!

I guess it comes down to whether you buy into the rock 'n' roll mythos or not.
Lemmy pretty much embodies the spirit of rock 'n' roll and to many is a living legend.

But as to whether or not any or all of the above makes for an interesting film - I'll tell you once I've watched it.

For some of us (meaning me), who aren't so lucky to be able to watch Channel 5 or its docus on Lemmy, this was a nice two hours spent on a Saturday night, sans French subtitles, even.

Perhaps not the most insightful in terms of surprising revelations, but then that's the allure of Lemmy : he's a legend because he is who he is, no mystical bollocks and all the skeletons have always been firmly out of the closet.

That point was made throughout the docu. Where other 'rock stars' put on their persona like a bunch of stage clothes whenever they're in the public eye, Lemmy is the real deal 24/7. So I was quite entertained. Rock 'n roll!

Actually, it's spelled "Le Mé".

Now write it out 50 times and don't do it again.

Yay.
I want to see it.
I just don't want to pay movie-theatre-prices for a documentary.

My allotted budget for movies is set aside for superhero flicks.
Not that Lemmy isn't a superhero.
He is.

He's just not a fast-paced
live-action kind of superhero
with special CGI effects.

Erm, I'm sure I saw it in the Satyrday Times telly guide thingy - it's on something - maybe not Channel4. I wouldn't have made it up.

After delving through the recycling bin  it IS on AND it's on Friday but it's on Sky Movies Premier

Watched the DVD last night - not bad, but not sure I'd pay to see it in the cinema. The usual clutch of "musicians" (and I use that description advisedly when refering to Metallica, Anthrax, et al) paying homage, interesting to see The Great Man as...well, a man - talking about his son, why he collects nazi memorabilia, his exit from Hawkwind; but also hearing from people who talk about him as a person, rather than as a Legend. He seemed uncomfortable in front of the camera, though, almost as if "Why would you want to know these things? They're very dull - can't we talk about something more interesting?" I don't think I came away with anything new and earth-shattering, but I'll remember a couple of the jokes he told.

I don't get the whole thing either. Must be because people are at their heart deeply conservative. If you look at Lemmy, it's like the last 30 years didn't exist. And apparently people love him for that.
There's nothing wrong with that, of course, it's just that in the Motorhead case I find it so extreme. They even have only one bloody song!!!

But I'll admit, haven't washed my hand since I touched Iggy Pop last year. So don't take my opinion dead serious (Iggy has 3, 4, different songs though, and he even had a phase when he wore a shirt) ;D
