Goth nights near me

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Seem to be about things like combichrist and angelspit.

What the hell. The strokes are more goth than those guys.

I had the chance to have a first chance to be in a live with Combichrist this summer and i can tell that they were very interesting - if you can ignore all the f-words they use  - and much promising too...

i don't think they r so much goth, if someone insists to use that term for them, it would be better to use "goth from outer space" instead ;D

The thing about 'industrial' or 'techno goth' or whatever is it sounds exactly like what they play in raves but with different vocals.

Also how can it be that the Sisters rock in ways I can't describe, while Sisters clones suck in ways that I can.

Look at this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u88LkJQRELY

It came up on my last.fm recently. My first thought: That's a Sisters drumbeat. Then: that's an early Sisiters riff. I was expecting to be met with the horror of type-O negative type singing but I was like 'he actually even sounds a bit like von'.

Oooh Pale Empress from The Merry Thoughts :D

Lovelly group, i discover them 40-50 days ago and i can't stop hear their songs, especially the Loveto Hate track, that actually has very very good lyrics and something that makes them a little bit different than the :von: use to write lyrics and music :)

I discover them in schwarze-welle, an oasis in radios and that kind of music, tht plays at least 5-6 :von: 's songs every single day ;D

Ach, I still can't understand the hate for Pale Empress. I'd rather hear that in a nightclub than "More". ;)

Also, Elystan, it's not necessarily bad music, bleepy-stompy-not-really-industrial s**t, but it's a shame it gets lumped in with goth.
One goth night in my city plays proper goth AND also EBM.
The other night is run by me and my friend. So we play lots of goth b-sides, 80s rock/pop (usually quite cheesy near the end) and... disco. Oops. ;)

I may have been a little harsh on the merry thoughts. It was just my knee jerk reaction. "You aren't the sisters!". *runs and cries*

Point is that I'm just too cool for my local population. The goth night is once a month and I get at most two or three numbers by the sisters. And "more" and "temple of love" are popular choices. Then maybe if I'm lucky something by bauhaus or joy division (again, this is mostly limited to "she's in parties", and for some reason "isolation").

In fact, last time I went there everyone was dancing to this techno crap. They put on some bauhaus and the floor pretty much emptied so I just danced to the f**ker on my own.

If I wanted to dance to electronic music to attract the attention of painted dolls I could go to a drum and bass night and there would be a much wider selection and I wouldn't have to recycle.

Please excuse me, I just have nowhere else to rant about this sort of thing. Goth is dead and my generation killed it. My elders and betters, please accept my apologies.

I think the Merry Thoughts are wonderful
The first five seconds of first listening is bewilderment.
By the time you are one minute in, you are thinking this is an offence against God and Man it is some kind of cut and paste done by some minor committee of a s**t City Council
But by the end of the track you want to hear the next one. By the end of the album, you want to play it again.
There is no having to get used to it, even though it's new to you, it's ingrained in your brain - you've heard it a 1,000 times
You want to enter that Dreamland and sing that Empire Song
Well you must know something

Couldn't have put it better myself Million Voices!

It's the natural reaction of a Sisters fan to f**king hate The Merry Thoughts, but suddenly, without realising it, you're singing along and doing the movements and - oh crap! - you like The Merry Thoughts.

Don't worry, we've all been through it.

As for Goth clubs playing bleepy stuff instead of Goth. Get up to date, it's been like that since about 1997 when ecstasy replaced speed as the poison of choice in clubs like Slimelight. If you have 50 young kiddiwinks wanting Combichrist and 3 old punkers wanting Bauhaus, what do you think a club that wants to remain open is gonna play? Sad but true.

The best way to get around this naughty problem is finding out a bit about the currently touring Goth bands and go to lots of shows - you're much more likely to meet some like minded folks in that sort of environment.
Nationalise the f**king lot.

Fair enough Maisey but some of us old punkers () can't really be arsed sitting through hundreds of pish touring Goff bands for the occasional nugget of something listenable. Been there done that and it wasn't really worth the effort back then. :|

Come to Belfast, the yokels here have seemingly JUST discovered cyber, so I am stuck with at least another ten years of b+starding bleeps (and this is coming from a girl who used to have highlighter yellow hair lol!)

The flyer says 'goth, industrial, EBM and stuff' -on more than one occassion the ol' eyeliner has left it saying 'stuff'. Mature, but satisfying when your ears are bleeding :)

My favourite part has been our 'batcave' night, combichrist-tastic :/
Goth - we're doing it wrong

Could be worse I suppose, I think I'd rather be fed up with the cyber crowd than with the "melodic metal with a female singer is goth" crowd.
