That tempo is bothering me.

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. Recently, upon viewing a live Sissy vid on the u tube, it began to really set in when i noticed how sped up the song actually was compared to the regular album version. In this case i'm talking about "walk away", a recent live version (2010). Anyway, I think all this time upon listening to recent live sissy stuff i somehow blocked it out of my mind to further distance myself from any discomfort. Now this has caught up to me. I don't like the sped up songs as they seem rushed and therefore lack some essence of the originals. Does anyone else agree? Seeing them live for the firstr time in my 20 year devotion automatically blocked out what i really heard, sped up song tempo's. Initially the spectacle and excitment of this event held all disregard for any of my negative rants. But now i see this up tempo thing as common and quite frankly i think it wrecks some of the songs. Do we think our hero :von: recognizes this or like everything else, is it just to fulfill his own needs as opposed to we the fans? Of course that's all speculation and whathaveya, but I'm sorry Andy, please slow down the tunes. Nevertheless, it's probably got something to do with time. If that's the case "time sucks!" Nuff said, i leave it to all.....

Have you heard the half tempo Body Electric or the 7 Minute version of Rain from heaven? I think it's just to do something different after all these years. I like the sped up FALAA but hate when Lucretia gets cut off (not that it needs to be 9 minutes but still) Just my opinion, but hey i'm probably wrong.

yes.

they've sped up a lot of the FALAA songs to the point that they're about 2 mins long, and whilst i can see why they've done it (to give it the industrial stonkathon quality von likes these days, rather than the goff plod of the original marian, for example) i agree that it does lose a lot of the subtlety and intricacy of the guitar work, which is what made the FALAA songs what they were.

I think NTTC would be a bad example since the speed hasn't really changed for this one.

Part of it may be that Von's voice wouldn't hold up to the drawn out 80's Logic moaning anymore. Maybe they could drop Logic from the set list altogether, and do Come Together, Slept or Romeo Down instead.

As groovy as his raspy howl sounds nowadays during Ribbons or NTTC or Summer, this is also the reason I don't want to hear them try Heartland or Burn anymore...

I'm absolutely convinced, they could do these songs perfectly today as ever
(maybe slightly different) ... but they got used to certain, say "habits" in performing them ... ...

Sorry not to reply, busy busy....Yes it was NTTC. Although I was looking at the vid last night and some others that i also noticed were sped up. It's somewhat unfortunate however, it would be worse if they didn;t exist at all. forget the album anyway at least they still do put on a good show. And yes I cringe too on some of those backing vocals. Does anyone else get that shiver and moment of embarrasment? :innocent: Not that it's all that bad but sometimes even the best of them make bad mistakes. But hey that's what we are here for right? Rants and raves, verbal abuse but no crying. i just really wondered about it when I took the time to stop denying it all. but i feel better now. thank you. Continue on....

I think the speedup is ok, like there's just a slight speed up in marian and Giving Ground - and I still hear no speedup in NTTC. Logic and FALAA sounds great and more vivid with some uptempo.

What bothers me are these incoomplete versions, like this piece of "burn" they've played 2006 or the missing part of TOL, TC without guitar intro....

This.

It was actually the main reason why I loved NTTC 2010 so much - they played it proper.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Indeed! And not only NTTC was played in the proper way, but Good Things and Rain From Heaven also! Maybe they realised shorter isn't better :innocent:

I do like the sped up Amphetamine Logic though and Lucretia works very good in this shorter version with a great ending.

Does anybody remember the last time :von: tried to do Burn in the old fashion? I believe it was in Amsterdam on the 1st gig of the Smoke & Mirrors tour in 2003 and it just went horribly wrong. So maybe it's better they only play half the song nowadays... :?

Backing vocals on Anaconda are just wrong, but after a beer or two really fun to shout along to
