NEW ALBUM - SUGGESTIONS

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

since they like to name the albums after one of the tracks included, I suggest "Summer"

"Knew you'd be pleased"
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I'd say Summer would be good. Preferable tracklisting:

Intro (rumbling in the jungle, etc.)
War On Drugs
Will I Dream?
Crash & Burn
We Are The Same Susanne
Come Together
Slept
Summer
Romeo Down
Top Nite Out (Live)

I'd say two more songs could be added to this. Probably between Crash & Burn and Slept and Summer.

Anything out of Apocalypse Now would do I'd say.
And I'd say having the end of Romeo Down fading into a big audience would probably work well too. Or maybe that's just my head.
IMHO they *do* need a middle piece other then (we are the same) Susanne.
Who knows.

Crash & Burn sounds as if it would be the last album. Also, Colours was only put on the CD version of the album by East/West - not the band (see FAQ http://www.thesistersofmercy.com/gen/fa ... aqnorm.htm). Think Top Nite out would be a good cue out, certainly if it is a semi-live version. Re-recording anything would probably fit a b-side more then the actual album (see Alice '93).

IMHO the album needs a middle piece, pretty much along the lines of More, This Corrosion, Marian - to make it stand out. I'd say none of the above tracks really have it in them yet to carry that off. Then again, there might be something we haven't heard yet.

They're *supposed* to be overblown pomp, which is why Steinman was perfect for them. And they're all brilliant, although I do think More goes on too bloody long. I really don't understand people who don't like This Corrosion, though. Doctor Jeep, maybe... but TC is fantastic.

@ Jonny Delphium :notworthy:

I agree with your opinion very much! :D

TC got me "into" The Sisters in 87 - but now I just have to "Walk Away" ;-)

Obviously a main album track along the lines of Marian etc, will push those who only have a fleeting interest in The Sisters of Mercy to get a greater interest. And the tracks people are most fond of tend to change over time anyway I'd say.

Especially with a band that doesn't release any freaking records.
