muso/tech boffin question

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. i'm looking to get some nearfield monitor speakers for my "studio" setup (ie: bedroom).

i only have about £250/300 to spend so am looking at "entry level" stuff :|

if possible, i'd like some active ones (ie: their own power supply)

i've been considering either the alesis m1 active mkII, the fostex pm1 or the behringer truth monitors.

all seem much of a muchness, and all seem quite popular. has anyone here got any views or any experience of any of these?

they will connected to my pc and used for recording cubase vst-based electronic & guitar-based stuff. if its of any significance, my soundcard is an m-audio audiophile 2496

The Alesis is very good, no doubt about that...
With your budget, buy them if you can find them for that price...
Expect Behringer to give 'white noise', that's the main prob with all Behringer equipment, in my opinion...
The Fostex, well, do not have much practice with them, but I heard some very good comments on their LF technology. The ones you pointed out have that, so mebbe.....
