Midlands Goth Festival - 18th February 2012

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Hello All,

Im just popping by to tell you about a new event taking place in Birmingham city centre on the 18th Feb 2012.

It is organised by a Community Interest Company, Dark Heart Events, was formed to provide and support events for the alternative community across the Midlands. Through these events we aim to promote and develop artist talent within the alternative community, enhance the public perception of all things 'goth, fight intolerance and injustice and maybe, just maybe have a little fun along the way. The company was formed in 2011 and is run by a comittee comprising members of the midlands alternative community, all of whom give their time for free!

Our line-up includes
Inkubus Sukkubus
Salvation
Mechanical Cabaret
Zeitgeist Zero
Twilight Laboratory (T-Lab)
Vince Ripper & the Rodent Show and followed by the best DJs in the region!

Gosh, Inkubus Sukkubus are still going? I saw them at Leeds Duchess of York many moons ago and thought they were shıt

I wouldn't like to comment about Inkies back then but they recently had a cracking gig at Eddies in Birmingham and went down a storm, coupled with Salvation who put on a fantastic live show and who have also had rave reviews playing with The m*****n....this is going to be a corker of a night! you should come along and see for yourself....all these bands...plus tying up the night with Vince Ripper and the Rodent Show and the best alt/goth DJs in the area playing until the early hours...its a snip at 15 quid (in advance!)

So just to clarify, that's Salvation, who allegedly left MR because they weren't goth enough, headlining a self-proclaimed goth festival. :?

We have a double headliner...all of the acts have a goth/alt edge and we think we've a good mix of good music which makes for an exciting event...when you look at Vince Ripper and the Rodent Show (featuring Ratty, ex Alien Sex Fiend) they use 50s/60s references with a bit of rock and roll, garage psychobilly with video shots....but it works and they go down a storm wherever they play...so a varied mix rather than straight goth.....Salvation have been brilliant, we are a new event and wanting to bridge all of the goth/alt/zombie events within the area, we love them and we had so much positive feedback at Whitby and via established scene players as soon as word got out that we were hoping to secure Salvation! You should give it a try.... https://www.theticketsellers.co.uk/tick ... l/10018632 :D

I'm regretting my snark about Inkubus Sukkubus up there. It's well over 15 years (I think) since I saw them, it's hardly fair to still be judging them on that.

Its easily done, particularly if the gig didnt go as well as hoped, I do know that their most recent gig was pretty good with calls for them to play again in the area as soon as they were able, so we jumped at the chance to secure them! This whole event has taken some time to get together and we are all giving our time for free because we feel that we have something really good on our hands and to secure the calibre of acts that we have, well, thats been fantastic for us...we've had a lot of interest for the event but we all agree that this line up works well and we are all looking forward to seeing them live...old fans and new! :D

Our daytime line up for the MGF.....

Kicking off at 10:00am, the Dark Market will open, featuring 25 alternative stalls for you to peruse and shop at. A full list of the confirmed traders is available at http://www.midlandsgothfestival.co.uk/traders - but suffice it to say there will be clothes, footwear, jewellery, CDs and more....

Also, from 10:00am, our Dark Cinema will be showing a selection of films, ranging from cult classic, to new and unseen pieces, including one of the first screenings for a film made here in Birmingham. The full list and screening times is at http://www.midlandsgothfestival.co.uk/films

If films aren't your thing, or you have finished shopping in the Dark Market, there will be some interesting sideshow games for you to try your hand at. You may win a prize or a go in the lucky dip, but whatever happens, 25% of the money raised on the sideshows will go towards helping our nominated charities, who this year are Cats Protection, Bats Conservation, SOPHIE, KIDS, St Basil's and Leicestershire Rook Rescue.

A list of the games and links to the charity websites can be found at http://www.midlandsgothfestival.co.uk/games

And of course, there will be Mr Gilman's Museum of WTF - whatever could be in there? You'll just have to see...

The Dark Market, Dark Cinema, sideshows & museums will all close at 16:00 allowing us a bit of a breather (and maybe some time for you to get some food) before the doors re-open at 17:30, with T-Lab kicking off the bands at 18:00 - then it's bands all the way to midnight, when the Dark Heart Disco will takeover - until 03:00 on Sunday morning when we'll sadly have to go and pass out!

NOTE: If you don't have a ticket(s) yet (and why the heck not?!) - we can't guarantee Royal Mail getting getting them posted to you if you buy them on-line - so consider buying an e-ticket to avoid having to wait chewing your fingernails - or simply pick some up from the Ballroom Box Office!

Roll on Saturday!
