Game of thrones premiere date question

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I would guess the timezone to be Eastern (New York / Washington DC etc.)

I don't know why.

The fount of all knowledge says:
The Eastern Time Zone is commonly used by the national media and other organizations as somewhat of a de facto official time for all of the United States. National media organizations will often report when news events happened or are scheduled to happen in Eastern Time, even if they occurred in another time zone. TV schedules, especially those that list events that are broadcast live across the country, are also almost always posted in Eastern Time.

Actually the answer is a little more convoluted... but you'll get the same answer as above.

Almost always, a time will be given with a timezone, and often several. Eg. 9am ET / 6am PT... read as "9am Eastern, 6am Pacific".

National news outlets will often say just "9am", but the, ehem, better ones will correct themselves... "president due to address the nation at 9am.... that's 9am Eastern". Of course, that doesn't really apply to local programming.

As for HBO, who broadcast GOT, why do they specify no time zone? The answer is, they actually broadcast on two channels, "HBO East" and "HBO West". HBOE will broadcast GOT at 9pm ET, HBOW will broadcast at 9pm PT. So in your time zone, it will be 9pm, regardless.

Many people actually get both HBO stations, so its always possible for those us on the west coast to jump the gun and watch the HBOE channel. HBO is a bit anomally in that regard. Other channels will normally time delay to local stations. So for example, ABC may show "Good Morning America" live in NY, but time delayed in LA by 3 hours.

The oddity in all of this is Central Time. Often Central Time programming is offset by one hour, or basicaly just runs at the same time as ET programming... so you'll get programs showing at "9ET/8CT"

Then there's also Hawaii and a few other places which pretty much do their own thing...

Bottom line is, GOT will first show at 9ET, so that's what you probably want.

You know, I'm not sure. In 15 years in the US, I don't ever remember seeing time specified as Mountain Time..
