Caslon Antique

Unknown songs and demos, who wrote what, who sang what, the usual biographies, discography gubbins, photos of Eldritch with no sunglasses, etc, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda....

Hi guys, does anyone know where I can get a better version of Caslon Antique typeface from? I've searched everywhere and just keep turning up the same one which is inferior to the one The Sisters of Mercy used on all of their artwork. The one that seems to be floating around the net is slightly rougher and less elegant than the one the Sisters use.

Thanks

EDIT: P.S. Sorry thought I'd put this in Resources but seems to have ended up in sisters faq's which on reflection probably isn't such a bad place for it after all.

thanks but that one also doesn't match up to the Caslon Antique typeface used on the Sisters artwork. Maybe it doesn't exist as undoubtedly the sisters covers were put together before computers were really used for design. I've got a sheet of letraset when I bought it in 1986 with caslon antique it's much nicer than what is floating around the net.

God, have I got to create the font from scratch???

Well there is that. But seriously, what differences are you seeing?

yeah, the sisters used letraset originally.

the versions of caslon antique and casablanca antique floating around the web are freeware aren't they? i'd image there is a font library somewhere with a more refined version that you could buy for

tbh, the sisters always used to reduce the kerning on their artwork. if you try that with either of those two fonts linked above it looks a lot more like the sisters stuff

I'm off to try and figure out either a greasemonkey script or a stylish hack to get HL to display in caslon antique ;D

Stylish script:

Code: Select all

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("myheartland.co.uk") {
 body, td{
    font-family: CasablancaAntique !important;
    font-size: 16px !important;
    }
}
Well it works but it looks bloody horrible ;D

lol nice replies. Might have to come here more often. In response to whether there is much difference. No there isn't really, but me being a long long time fan of both records and artwork and being a designer means there is enough of a difference. I'm happy to pay for it but really don't think it exists.

Nice responses though!

It's not horrible, it's just hard to read at that size.

If you like it, download and install the font from up there, download and install the "Stylish" add-on for Firefox, and copy-and-paste the thing I posted in the code tags into a new user-style. Bingo!
