FOTN- Ceremonies

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I think it starts out weak, but gets better.

I also think the live setting showcases the weakness of the songwriting on Mourning Sun. FOTN were greater than the sum of their parts, and this record helps prove it. FACT! as someone used to say.

This is not to say it's bad. It's a fine record. Certainly better than anything Von has released in 15+ years. Because, you know.. obvious and such. Records. None. False promises. Plenty.

I think it's pretty great. Okay there are some drawbacks like you only see McCoy (of course!) on the dvd and the dreadlocked guitarplayer (is that Gavin?) who is just like a statue on stage. Sometimes you get to see the other guitarist, but the bass & drum brethren are almost never to be seen. Weird!
The cd's sound great, but maybe too great and I don't buy it they actually recorded it like this. I guess McCoy did quite a lot of 'finetuning' afterwards, but that's just me guessing...

Still, it doesn't matter as it sounds really good and especially the 2nd disc has a very fine selection of songs. I just know I'll keep on playing this for years, so in the end very much worth the wait!
