Eldritch, "new" material and Kickstarter

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I apologize if this has been suggested previously (I searched on "kick" and "kickstarter").

More and more artists are abandoning traditional financing models and it would seem to me that Kickstarter would be the best way for Eldritch to finally release studio versions of material that has existed for years (ok, decades).

I think it is safe to say that he could pretty easily raise a significant amount of money via Kickstarter, at least enough to finance the creation of, what at this point, could be a double album. I know that I would happily invest upwards of $200 to get a double CD and whatever other goodies he could make available at that financing level.

There is little, to no risk involved as he could set a threshold of minimum financing. Additionally, he has an entire network of potential marketers between Heartland and Dominion. I think it is safe to say that were he to announce a Kickstarter project that we would all promote the hell out of it via social media.

Once the album is complete, he could sell it via iTunes, Amazon and his own website. A new album would almost certainly generate significant interest in future tours (especially considering that a lot of the new material is very good).

Amanda Palmer has raised close to $700,000 and still has two weeks (as of 5/16) to continue to raise money. Her target was $100,000. I find it hard to believe that Eldritch couldn't find 2000 fans to donate $50 each for new material.

You're making a rather hefty assumption: that Eldritch actually wants to record and release a new album. All available evidence suggests otherwise. :evil:

a lot of his contemporaries (the march violets, killing joke, etc) have recently had great success raising funds to record an album using pledge music, which is bit more geared up to musos than kickstarter

but as mark says, you're presuming he wants to..? :?

Kickstarter is odd, you aren't guaranteed any actual result from your sponsorship, and you certainly don't get any share of future profits. Plus, no quality control. I'm afraid I can picture him taking the money and releasing another SSV on us whilst chuckling at how the fanbase lap it up anyway!
Besides, as markfiend says, he just isn't interested, for whatever reason.

Coincidentally Monday's XKCD was about kickstarter

Why don't the sisters do a pledge?

Responded recently by the Catalyst ;

As much as I think the Pledge idea and model is fantastic for a lot of bands, I don't think it would be the correct step forward for the Sisters. I think the same of Eureka Machines doing a Pledge, albeit for completely different reasons. I get asked this all the time. We'd have done it by now if we thought it were the right thing to do.

He rather neatly avoided answering the question there, didn't he? I hear Dacid Cameron's looking for new PR man..

He didn't avoid the question. He was asked "why?" and he answered "because", which gets you a first in philosophy finals and is exactly how his Lord and Puppetmaster Eldritch would have enswered it (albeit with a touch more sneer).
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.
