I would like also to add that if the band agrees and do such thing with such kinds of $$ for ticket price will be controversial with their stated ideas of politics, life, attitude etc also known as cosmotheory.
More likely, if they say the truth about what they believe in public, would be to play a gig to support a workers union that is in 1 year strike with starving families behind than a 4,000$ ticket price gig for a small rich people in a private island in carribean.
Please, correct me if i have wrong view in this, or there is a drastic change in their attitude or they stated otherwise somewhere.

It would definitely be controversial - it certainly has been amongst Peter Murphy fans - which is why I raised the question on here. My initial reaction was that it was a betrayal of Bauhaus' punk roots, and the same would be true of the Sisters. But in the current environment where recording and releasing CDs the traditional way costs rather than raises money, artists have to be creative to survive.
The only reason Murphy was able to release Ninth last year was because of a wealthy benefactor. These gigs are an alternative way of getting the cash together for the next album, and were part of a more traditional tour with larger venues and normal ticket prices open to (almost) all.
Ultimately, this new model is not that dissimilar to the main alternative (Pledge) where there are often more outlandish items to pledge for at ridiculous prices which no-one seems to object to.
If people are happy (stupid ?rich ?) enough to pay the $4k, then is there really a problem? It's hardly Sin City.

I couldn't resist asking Chris Catalyst what he thought of the idea on Formspring and (decent chap that he is) he answered very quickly as follows :

"This just isn't the sort of thing I'd ever particularly want to do, particularly with the Sisters. I hate having to ask for money off people at the best of times, never mind four large."

I suppose he's had plenty of experience playing to (undeservedly) small crowds with EM so it would hardly have been a novelty for him.

I've said this before but a far better model is the one Marillion pioneered more than a decade ago where you simply pre-order the album before it's recorded. You pay the price you would pay anyway (deluxe options are also available) and they use the money to fund the recordings, publicity etc. The pre-orders get a special edition with bonus tracks or special packaging and, as a bonus, the first however many orders get thanked in the sleeve notes. Everyone pays a set, sensible amount - either the normal sale price or a bit extra for a special exclusive edition. Marillion don't do it with every album but have tried two or three variations over the years, always successfully, and are doing it again with their forthcoming album. They won lots of accolades and (I think) some industry award first time out and the model has been adopted by other artists. Of course, if someone wants to donate a lot more then let them but this lets everyone take part regardless of wealth and you get what you paid for.

Where does $4k per person come from?

You can get a small sized venue for about $500 and a fee of $10k would book pretty much any "popular / successful" band, unlike Murphy & Von
