QUIFF!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

cheers guys!

the company i joined in april are doing the new website for ASICS sportswear. it's a global project, with a base-line ecommerce website for each territory, but with rich content (re: editorial stuff - athletes, articles, lifestyle stuff etc) tailored for each territory's culture.

first up we're doing the USA site, then after that we'll move on to the japan site, than the australian site, then probably european (west & north europe), which may in turn be broken down into individual countries like UK,. germany, spain etc

it's looking like being an 18 months - 2 year project in total :o

we've only just acquired the contract, so the first thing we have to do is get to know the clients, get to understand them and get them to understand us, which means there's 6 of us out here in california for a month, living in this house :D

it's a bit like big brother meets the apprentice tbh  :|

i gather we won't be required to spend quite so much time on-site when we're working with the other territories (gutted! i really want to go to japan!) but as this is the big global project kick-off, we had to come out here.

all of us do different things on the project (strategy, user experience, design, etc etc) so while we've all got stuff to do over the month, some of the team are already in all-day workshops over at ASICS' office in Irvine. while the rest of us are busy at the house preparing material for our own workshops...

my stuff starts in earnest on wednesday, and form then on i will be leading all-day "requirements gathering" workshops every weds, thurs and fri. and then working evenings and weekends to document the findings and prepare the next set of workshops...

my workshops all involve really senior management - people with job titles like the "head of global marketing" or "vice president of ASICS US" or similar :o :urff:

it's going to be intense for me once this stuff starts properly on wednesday, but until then i get a couple of days chilling around the house doing background reading and prep :D

all on works' expenses... ;D :innocent:

result :!: ;)

Have fun! And try to get to know the local/state craft brewing scene. There's some really interesting beers being made on the US West coast these days.

Yes, I noticed the can of Colorado Kool-Aid. Awful stuff. Don't judge American beer by the macrobrews

Nice to hear a success story. About 10 years ago I took the opportunity to work overseas and it turned out to be an awesome thing to do. Hoping it all pans out well.
