Anne-Marie Hurst + The Last Cry + Distorted Pictures - 04/08

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

ANNE-MARIE HURST + THE LAST CRY + DISTORTED PICTURES

Anne-Marie Hurst is the lead vocalist from legendary 80s goth bands The Elements, Skeletal Family and Ghost Dance. She was the lead vocalist of The Elements until 1982, when she helped form Skeletal Family, then later co-founded Ghost Dance with Gary Marx (formerly of The Sisters of Mercy) in 1985.

Backed with a four piece guitar band (including former Skeletal Family bassist Roger "Trotwood" Nowell), Anne-Marie has returned to performing live, playing songs from both Ghost Dance & Skeletal Family alongside new original material from her excellent solo album "Day Of All Days".

The Last Cry (as they are now) formed 4 years ago, taking their cues from bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode, fashioning a dark atmospheric and dramatic wall of sound which exhibits a coherency, intensity and emotional depth. Their live shows are the stuff of legend and it's a pleasure to welcome them back to Leeds.

Distorted Pictures is the new project formed by Natasha Donald (Legion) and Rob Walker (Rhombus) to further explore the more melodic nature of their combined playing styles. Having been described as "jangly swirling guitars driven on by powerful drums and pounding bass", they have drawn favourable comparisons to The Chameleons.

Really looking forward to this one, it's an immense privilege to have such a legend playing a Flock gig, and I'm pretty sure it's her first headline show in Leeds since returning to the stage. Looking forward to seeing Rob Rhombus's new band too!
