Best New (unreleased) Sisters Song?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

very sad to see where most here are obviously stuck ... ...

A short reminder seems urgently necessary, so hey, treasures, what is the best new Sisters song so far?

I voted for Summer, but it could just as easily have been Crash and Burn. Both of them would make fine a-sides for a single (if this were a band that did such old-fashioned things as release singles). Both of them could score radio play too, I think (Still might make a good single as well, though not as good a single as these other two).

I generally like all of the (ahem!) new songs. Romeo Down live, though, is like watching paint dry. I think a studio version--with all the subtlety that would entail--would probably be fantastic. I'm not so sure it works live.

War On Drugs.
But it is wrong that songs like C+B and Suzanne sound tired, theyre just never given a break...

Summer.

I can't believe Susanne is in the lead. I always skip over it on live recordings. Tedium.

Too right, but i'm going for 'the sample size is too small to be indicative'.

Normally it would be War On Drugs or Crash & Burn for me, but the temptation was too much...
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Suzanne. But shouldn't it be in the covers section?

Are we really considering 'good things ' a new song ?

I was being fair and trying to imagine what these songs would sound like if they were studio recordings. I decided that most of them would sound great but I would never hear them. I got so overcome with emotion I couldn't make a decision.

I can't stand Summer, it's too formulaic. Suzanne I can tolerate, although again...

WoD, Romeo Down, Slept, C&B and Arms I all love and I'd be hard pressed to choose between.

From this list Good Things, but I'm not gonna put that down as it's hardly a new one (okay, 'new' is kinda fishy in Sisters' terms anyway).
Suzanne, Romeo Down or War On Drugs. Come Together also jolly good.

Today Romeo Down wins, tomorrow could be another... 8)

Arms/Romeo Down/Arms (extended) would be a killer single.

Undecided. I've missed Wide Receiver ... but that was never ever played live, iirc.

Come Together, Susanne, Slept, Will I Dream?,
Still and Arms are not yet fully worked out, imo.

Far Parade is perfect, but not my favourite.

Top Nite Out is great, but I didn't know until I heard The Sisters play it in The Netherlands, recently.

I abolutely love War On Drugs, but I guess The Sisters couldn't play it again the way they did in Hasselt 2001.

Crash And Burn, Summer and Romeo Down have almost come to full blossom by now,
especially the guitars have become just gorgeous ... but I also love these Arms riffs (great rock),
and those of Still and Will I Dream (so sweet and funny) ...

Good Things is straight away wonderful. The only song without a shadow of a doubt.
So, that's the one - Good Things ... clearly the best ... but so very, very old already ... damned!

Hell, I can't but chose for Summer.

Lyrics here, written in 2009, but never played live so no one outside the band has ever heard it played (apart from PiB, who got the demo version in 1982).

After an hours-long sonic session, I've come up with my "short list" of the following (for their sound alone):

Still

Susanne

Slept

War on Drugs

Crash and Burn

Arms

For their lyrics as well? Up in the air, really. But, since I'm pressed for a choice, I'm gonna go with C&B. For now. Christ, I've not listened to the Girls like this since roughly November '08. Shame on me. They just never get old. Ahhh, so lovely to be back home in their black embrace. \m/
