Best gigs of 2003?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Now then... it's been a pretty good year for gigs IMHO, so what are everyone's faves? Here's my top 5 (in no particular order):

1. The Sisters Of Mercy / Sulpher - Furth 11/4/03 (best Sisters gig of recent years and a kick-arse support act - top night!)

2. The Damned / Echo & The Bunnymen - Glastonbury Festival, June

3. Ministry - London Astoria, March

4. Killing Joke - Sheffield Leadmill 18/10/03

5. The M_i_s_s_i_o_n - The Forum, London 25/10/03 (a triumphant return for Wayne and co.)

...and a few dodgy ones: :|

Sisters - Leeds, first night. (I was at the bar for most of the set... :roll: )
Marilyn Manson - Download Festival (not the great live band they once were.)
Gary Numan - Manchester Academy

Has to be The Sisters, Glasgow Barrowland, to my shame, the first time I saw them live, if you don't count having Wake burned into your retinas and brain.

robin black and the intergalactic rockstars/tigertailz/zodiac mindwarp and the love reaction - sheffield corperation - december 13th

goteki/sheep on drugs/icon of coil - whitby goth weekend - november 1st (i think?)

crash kelly/the quireboys - sheffield corporation - september 13th

sisters in wolves was a fun night out - but those 5 were just THE best :D

I was sober and they didn't have too much smoke, and the smoke alarms kept going off which kept me entertained all night( I was ill and London and Leeds, Bristol was good too)

5. Numan and Sulpher, Bristol
Best I've seen Numan and only time I've
seen Sulpher

6. Smurphs in Crewe.
The Best of many this year

7. Iron Maiden, Donnington
I thought they'd be s**t

8. Otway in Bristol
What an act

9. Hussey, Whitby
They treated him like their favourite uncle

10. Marilyn Manson, Donnington
I was entertained by his set wafting in the Wind


Worst

Perfect Circle Manchester
Short set, one song encore, less than an hour and we were back on the streets by 10:05, and they were right up their own arses!

Rhombus, Manchester
Finally getting on stage to headline at 12:30 on a Monday night, we couldn't hear the drums, and as it turns out neither could the auidence

Murder Dolls, Donnington
Tip for next time lads, write some songs and rehearse them!

Not been to a bad gig all year - well unless you class Metallica at Leeds ....

So in no particular order:
Jane's Addiction
Killing Joke's (possibly the Nottingham gig being my fav)
Puressence (at least 9 times this year
The Music ( because the now departed Nylon Pylon were fablious) oh the Brixton gig coz I've never been there and it was stunning
JULIAN COPE - the Lyric gig possibly nudging the Liverpool one for superiority
British Sea Power here in luvverly Lincoln
The Cramps
Hugh Cornwell
The Rain Band
Echoboy

Oh and how Interpol @ the Roadhouse were pap (but i wasn't sure that wasn't at the very backend of last year...)

No more gigs this year, but already a couple of Puressence ones lined up fer Feb andmarch.

Late entry on the remembering who else I've been to see....Ravonettes...PAP, really enjoed the first two tracks...but after hearing the same old o ver and over again realised they were pants. The support act however, were brillaint! The very recently and will be sadly missed Nylon Pylon.

REM at Manchester Move festival, Sisters in the Dam, and Metallica at the Leeds Festival. My top three bands, all in the space of four months. :D

Sadly, I can't see how it would ever get better. All at one festival, with Rammstein and Kate Bush thrown in, perchance.

Well, Sisters at the Forum were cool - marred only by having to get up at 8 the next day and drive to Bolton with a hangover.

Saw the up-and-coming Franz Ferdinand support the similarly impressive Sunderland band Futureheads in Camden, which had its moments. FF need to get over themselves a bit, but were pretty good. Futureheads need more variety in their post-punk mix.

Luke Haines accompanied by strings was a bit wank, but the reformed Auteurs made that (almost) forgiveable. Black Box Recorder were excellent, if you like that acidic St Etienne kind of thing. Since I'm very fond of Sarah Nixey I was quite happy.

Too many dodgy acts in pubs in Essex, though. Not really a vintage year.

M_ission - London Best gig since they reformed by a thousand miles

Arthur Brown - London Marquee (Supporting Ozrics) forse elecreic gig for ages, stormin set

the damned - torquay town hall, this wasnt just a gig it was an event the forst alternative gig in torbay for over 10 year, great night out though the sound was very iffy.

All About Eve - Whitby they were top of the bill and this is why, superb



worst gigs?

well dissapointed with the reformed lorries, though they wernt band but wernt brilliant either

Alice Cooper at gilfest - dull as dishwater Bez was more fun

Best concert moment of 2003, however, was the sing-along to Metallica's "Creeping Death" at their Roskilde concert. 65 000 people chanting "Die! Die! Die!". Puerile as it might seem, it was truly memorable.

Saw them at The Glasgow Academy SG, and while they still look and sound the business, there was something missing that was there on the Psalm 69 tour. I actually left before the end because it was all beginning to sound like the same song. Looking forward to a new RevCo album sooner rather than later. :roll:

Mrs Goth and Myself were hoping to go to Iron(ic) Maiden in Cardiff but it was SOLD OUT at least a month before the gig!
