When someone did The Lord Of The Rings, I got a better score than he did, and I hadn't revised.

The few times it's been a subject I know well, the questions have been fairly straightforward and whenever it's a subject I know a bit but am not an expert in I still do reasonably well. I've come to the conclusion that it always seemed hard because, in the original 1970s series, people always chose highbrow subjects that most of us didn't know anything about (especially if we were children!) but now that pop culture is more common the specialist subject is exposed as something that anyone can do well in if they choose a subject they know reasonably well. But I agree that somehow the general knowedge round manages to be much harder even though most of the questions aren't particularly obscure. They're just very wide ranging and require you to know both highbrow and popular culture.markfiend wrote:Ah. Well. I think you may have hit the nail on the head here.stufarq wrote:The few times it's been a subject I know well, the questions have been fairly straightforward and whenever it's a subject I know a bit but am not an expert in I still do reasonably well. 10, but I got Hooky's book for Xmas. Can't believe he never got the 'Liverpool club' question.
This week has Ian Dury as a specialist subject.
Another good one is Ade Edmondson, specialist subject Sex Pistols.

Me neither, especially given his age he must have been around and reading the NME at the time. I think that the (original) Cavern had been bulldozed long before then ! I only got 8, even though the questions didn't seem that obscure, but then again I can't remember where I left some things this morning.Shamiss wrote:Can't believe he never got the 'Liverpool club' question.
