Best bassist of all time?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

MusicRadar is having a poll on the best bass player ever.
They seem to have got it whittled down to 60 nominees.

Think anyone's missing?

From that list, its either Bootsy or Larry Graham. Its a weird list though, did they just pick the names out of a hat?

Laswell, Wobble, Burton, Butler, Entwistle, JPJ, Wooten on same list- it's impossibru to choose one. I can drop Entwistle for too many notes, but JPJ, Jah and Butler, nea way to chose only one.

Gene Simmons is in the list? WTF? I wouldn't credit him with being anything better than plodding and workmanlike.

Edit to add. That wasn't deliberate flamebait, but I just don't "get" KISS.

Yeah - Gallup deserves to be on there. If only for the bit at the end of 'A Forest'. :D

He's not known as a bassist though is he? Or am I just not in the loop here?

I suppose he's in the list because of this kind of virtuosity (yawn) :

Interesting list. Good to see Jean-Jacques Burnel in there, the most innovative and dynamic of the punk era IMHO.If the list were bigger, it would have been nice to see Barry Adamson in there too.

Herbie Flowers isn't on the list.

Not only did he play bass on "Walk On The Wild Side" but he also wrote "Grandad" - that is what I call multi-talented!

And the Heat Ray bassline from War of The Worlds :notworthy:

No mention of John McVie, kind of weird considering they're active again.
