The vocals and sensibility go without saying when you see the band names and the choice of songs, but I like the arrangement on these. There are parts in both covers where the vocalist unwinds a little and immediately sounds better.

I don't believe I've ever heard a good Sisters cover. There have been some absolute abomimations where "This Corrosion" is concerned, from the industrial version played by Germans with bagpipes to the bad Finnish Pete Steele impersonator from the Shixty Nine Eyesh and a gaggle of emo's dumping on it.

The Supersuckers did a fabulous cover of Afterhours. I really love the Lambchop cover of This Corrosion.

The problem is that most TSOM covers are done by goth/industrial bands, and most goth/industrial bands are terrible. Not all of them are. But most of them. Especially the ones that think covering the Sisters is a good idea.

I have to say that I enjoy most of the covers, even if some only to serve what a unique voice Eldritch has, or the subtleties of the arrangements of the originals. And as for Peter Steele, Carl McCoy or Jyrkki, there are far worse singers they could have copied and at least they have all given the Sisters sound and image their own unique twist, unlike many of the shorter lived copyists. And surely even at your most curmudgeonly, @Dewinter, you must enjoy the likes of Nouvelle Vague's Marian or some of the other versions pretty universally acclaimed in this thread. What I find most amazing is that twenty years since the last release, there seems to be at least one new cover a week appearing on YouTube, often by people who hadn't even started school when UTG came out. In the same way that they were one of the most bootLegged bands in their heyday, TSOM seem to be one of the most covered bands of their generation these days, which gives some external validation of their legacy.

I do remember driving my father to spluttering fury by saying I preferred FYC and The Pet Shop Boys covers of certain Elvis tracks to the original, so horses for courses! But for me covers only have any value if they improve on the original, a better singer, guitarist, or more up to date production values. I daresay Leonard Cohen could do an awe-inspiring Sisters cover.

As for Lambchop..bagpipes. No offence to any Scot, but bagpipes sound like someone squeezing a pig rythmically.

Honestly, I think TSOM tunes really lend themselves to country music treatments. In fact, I'd say (with Mike Ness, I guess) that the quality of a song is really displayed not on the stage at 1000 watts, but in the bedroom on an acoustic guitar. If it works there, it works anywhere. Most TSOM work there. I once spent a few weeks out in the country with friends. We drank a lot and played bluegrass-ish versions of TSOM songs. They worked well, and that is less a testament to our drunken playing than it is to the craftsmanship of the author/authors of said songs.

I've done covers of Lights, Lucretia, Adrenochrome, Marian, Burn, Heartland, and probably even more

Haven't uploaded any of them though, the rest of the band's not 100% happy with them.
