A short history of contractual obligation...

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Is there a reason why 'samples' of Andrew Eldritch's voice is always used? Is it a disclaimer for Eldritch to distance himself so suggest he'd no actual involvement & if that's the case - why would East West accept it?

I suspect that term is only used in subsequent reports about Go Figure.
At the time he submitted it, for all intents & purposes it WAS all him.
Cheers.

It was some established German techno band. I forget the name now but it's been discussed here before.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

The best thing about this article is that for many readers of MTV Hive, this will be their one and only encounter with the music of AWH Taylor !

What I don't understand is - now that Eldo has left East / West. Why don't the record company put out different stuff rathere than just re-releasing the same three albums.
They must have demos different mixes etc in the vault a sort of Bolan's "Beginning Of Doves". I mean if we all have "Good Things" and "Spirits Fly" and "Jolene" etc etc they must have them but in better nick so why don't they release them??
Well you must know something

The press release sheet presented it as a new album by the Sisters of Mercy - even if the (really ugly) cover didn't feature the band's name anywhere.
I don't know if the music was actually by an 'established German techno band', but I seem to remember that one of them was an ex-member of Xmal Deutschland.

Loads about SSV on here, on the official site, in UTR, on Wikipedia etc etc. Peter Bellendir was the ex-Xmal guy, who passed away recently (see "Where are they now" section). The other guy was "T Schroeder". Is this the current Koln DJ and remixer Tim Schroeder ?

That's who I was thinking of. "German", "established", "band". Three out of four ain't bad!

Thought this was relevant.
"We only made this record [UTG single] because I've got a Greatest Hits album coming out and the record company don't have the imagination to market it without a new single."

A recurring theme. Eldritch is NOT happy with the Warner corporation's commitment to the band, and plans one last proper album, followed by what he cacklingly describes as "Metal Machine Music II" just to escape the contract.

SSV could be seen as MMM2, or something of the sort. Never knew he was planning it out already in '93.

Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

Great article indeed. Yet another valuable contribution to this forum by Robert.

I've just listened to the album thanks to the link provided in the article. Am I the only one that noticed quite a few clicks and dropouts here and there? For an obvious example listen to track 3 at 2'17 & 2'24.
Or am I the only one who actually listened to it?
I found it actually slightly more palatable this time than the couple of times I listened to the mp3 version before.

great article - it's always fascinated me that EW went so far as to place an ad for SSV in the NME - not quote full page but was an quarter page (vertically).
