Save the Owl @ Rodley

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

For the Leeds contingent - the licensees of the Owl at Rodley will be locking the doors and leaving at the end of May. Apparently their differences with the pubco, Enterprise, are irreconcilable. The pub is a community resource and a much-loved venue for live music, so please lend a hand in keeping it going (and if you happen to be there on the evening of 31st of May there's a very real danger you might run into me!).

There's more info on that there Google Plus:

They've posted some suggestions for ways to help:

1. Join the Facebook group “Save the Owl @ Rodley.

2. Complete the Government Survey via http://www.fairdealforyourlocal.com/. If you’re not sure how to answer the questions you can refer to the “Fair Deal for your Local suggestions below.

* Confidentiality – this is up to you

* Should the Government step in to regulate the relationship between pub companies and tenants? Yes

* Is a statutory code and independent adjudicator the way to tackle the problem? Yes

* Both of these principles should be at the heart of the code: tenants must be treated fairly and lawfully, and tied tenants should be no worse off than free of tie tenants

3. Use your contacts – get others to join the group and make them aware of what’s happening. Tweet #SavetheOwl, Share on Facebook, Talk about it

4. Contact your MP

· Rachel Reeves MP for Leeds West (who has this on her website) http://www.rachelreeves.net/blogs/index ... ley?blog=9

· Greg Mullholland MP for Leeds North West

· Stuart Andrew MP for Pudsey Horsforth and Aireborough

5. Sign-up to become a Fair Deal for your Local campaigner http://www.fairdealforyourlocal.com/campaigner/

6. Contact Camra Leeds. http://www.leeds-camra.com/
