Loved The WASP Factory (first time I ever laughed and was totally disgusted at the same time) enjoyed a few of his others but never really got into his SciFi .
RIP Iain Banks
Read this earlier & it was a bit shorter in coming than expected.Pat wrote:I know it'd been discussed on another thread that time was short, but shorter than we thought.

Write in peace dude.
I met him once, as we live in the Kingdom. Had just finished 'Complicity' and realised the guy, filling up, in front of me was Iain Banks. Had a nice wee chat, as I remember, before he roared off on his bike.
Sad news indeed.

See! I told you it wasn't 'just a phase'!

I couldn't get to grips with The Wasp Factory, but his Culture novels were staggering and without comparison in SF for me.
Shocking loss, came damn quickly. Did he manage to marry his wife before the End?

Incredibly sad. Great guy, really well thought of up here, no airs and graces. One of the few modern novelists I've really enjoyed. RIP.
