This has been puzzling me since I first heard it way back in the deeps of time.
So, Von starts Gimme Shelter with something like "I hope you know what it is you chickensh-t", and mid way through comes out with "mumble mumble after 40 nights, still f-cking gets it wrong, mumble mumble".
Obviously a screw-up somewhere, but who? What? Anyone know?

I haven't listened in years, but I believe the two quotes are:mh wrote:This has been puzzling me since I first heard it way back in the deeps of time.

"You don't even know what it is yet, chicken-shit" and "after 40 nights... Still fucking gets it wrong..."
The first one is, I suspect, directed to someone in the audience. The second, I think, is a gripe about that guitarist.

Nobody else to blame really as it (Stockholm, May '85) was about the twentieth gig since Gary Marx had left. As WH had been playing Gimme Shelter with the band for over a year and probably well in excess of 100 dates one can understand Von's frustration, and the comment reveals some of the tensions between the remaining band members shortly before the final split.
