FALAA - meaning of album title?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Always wondered... what does 'First And Last And Always' specifically refer to or mean? Sounds very religious, but I doubt this was the intended meaning or message.

I thought it meant there was only going to be the ONE album.

Could be wrong but I always suspected it was just named after one of the songs. Apparently bands sometimes do that.

On further reflection FALAA is possibly Eldo's TSOM LP prediction :-

The first one, the last one and the only one that will stay in popular culture.

Another apt quote from William James "Genius, in truth, means little more than the faculty of perceiving in an unhabitual way".

Yeah, that's the origin but as for "meaning of album title", in all seriousness it's just named after the song, which is a love song where the phrase means "noiw and for ever", which is the meaning of most love songs. People keep looking for deeper meanings when the truth is it just sounded good.

I don't get the sense of "love song" from FALAA at all. I thought it was more a pronouncement about Eldritch himself and his relationship to the band/public.

Read somewhere (may have been here or wiki) that the reason for the album being FALAA is that the band was slowly disintegrating due to drugs and personall conflicts, mostly between Marx and Eldritch, and Eldritch was breaking up with his long time girlfriend, it just set the tone for the band and its members at the time. They thought it was going to be the only one.

I think the meaning was:
"There will be only three albums and only three.
The First (FALAA), The Last (Floodland) and you will Always remember us for the VT" ;D

"Black October" wasn't really going to cut it as the album title when they had to put the release date back.

Aye, and "Black March" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. ;)
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
