Thanks again everyone.
I think my Dad might enjoy Belgian good vibes Iz, he certainly has a soft spot for your beer.

Bad news, Mark ... ...
Anything nice to mitigate the first shock for your dad were surely a good thing. And perhaps a weekend trip to Belgium were not the worst idea to make leeway for some more relaxed decision ... ...
I wish you and your family all the energies it takes to cope with this new challenge.

Mark you obviously have experience how to handle this so only thing I can do is to send you all the positive vibrations and hopes.

Yep, tell him a load of nutters on the internet want him to get well. It'd encourage me to improve, if only to escape them
In far less dramatic terms, I'm having a rotten come-down from a cracking weekend. Monday morning sympathies to us all!

Nothing so excessive Fiend - just the usual, legal drugs. In copious amounts.

True. Is there a turn of phrase for the crash after just a conventional weekend of drunken tomfoolery?

Update from the oncologist:
So if my dad does go through three months of hell with another round of chemotherapy, he'll probably have 18 months to live.
If he doesn't it's more likely to be six.
I'm in pieces. I just feel numb at the moment. It's a real bastard.

C-word it is real bastard, i heard many times how is fight with that is- my mum is a nurse in oncologycal hospital (no personal data or info, just how it is from purely medical point ot view).
it's about emotions and hopes, so rational reasons are a bit pointless now, esp. that usually people having that diseas and their families really believe that there is a hope (which is natural).
so to not say to much or too little, best wishes to your dad, your relatives and you Mark.

Sad to hear, markfiend ... ... each time, I think of my parents and of the fact that stuff like this is unavoidably underway, I get really sick.
All the best from here to you and your family that you find the best way to deal with the situation and make peace with it.
@splintered thing
I do keep my fingers crossed and wish for the best for your mum! At least, it is not per se a death sentence, nowadays ...

There's very little to say that's of comfort really Mark.
Been through it several times but can only imagine how painful it is when it's your Dad.
Be strong for him mate.
