Scott Walker

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I love his late 60s work, especially Scott 4, but haven't really followed his stuff beyond that.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

What mh said.
The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

Indeed, Bowie's cover of Nite Flights is sublime. I third mh's vote for Scott 4 although Climate of Hunter is what I would be inclined to advise a Sisters fan to start with. Tilt weirds out in spectacular fashion and has many moments of Godlike genius. And if only Peter Walsh had produced Simple Minds half as well.

Sorry to say that Scott lost me after that (The Drift, Bish Bosch etc.) I still buy his records in the perhaps vain hope that one day there will be something resembling a song on one of them. Cue Eldritch quotes about music being a medium, rock and roll being a language and there being no point in making avant garde records that nobody apart from the author can understand.

i would never advise someone something based just on their being a sisters fan. common ground abounds but we are a very broad church united by our love of the sisters, not defined by it. individual musical taste is one of the more fiercely defended and treasured diversities to be found amongst HLers IMHO. 8)
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"
