Sad news up here in Scotland, with news that Edinburgh's Picture House music venue is to be turned into a Wetherspoons (pub) in the new year.
Originally a cinema (hence the name), as the Caley Palais in the 70s and 80s it hosted hundreds of gigs prior to becoming a club in the 90s, including The Sisters on their two trips to Scotland's capital.
The first was the opening night of the Black October tour, and saw the live debut of No Time To Cry, whilst the second was the second night of the Tune In etc tour. It's made one comeback as a gig venue but sadly this time it looks like it will be lost for good, despite the efforts of the local Member of the Scottish Parliament http://www.nme.com/news/various-artists/74506.

Very sad, and the same fate has befallen so many venues. It makes you wonder about the future of live music.
The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

Agree with you both. Festivals seem to have thrived over the past decade as the number of venues has dwindled. The new generation of stadium acts seems to come direct from YouTube or TV talent shows without ever discovering the fun of the "four guys in a Transit" circuit.James Blast wrote:Stadium rock at stadium pricesmarkfiend wrote:Very sad, and the same fate has befallen so many venues.
