Was just told this story, anybody ever heard it?
This was many years ago, Floodland era … we're at The Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA, [yes, the Tower Theater where Bowie recorded his first live album], we're sitting there almost in the middle of the main level, and of course, everyone is looking rather strange and dark. Anyway, the guy next to me was clad in leather, and a low voice comes over the sound system, and I think the guy next to me is singing along, but he's not, he's actually singing, it's Andrew, he's got a remote mic, he stands up and he's got this vintage sort of handheld spotlight, works his way out of the crowd singing and onto the stage, it was brilliant.

In the late 1980s? Andrew Eldritch ... all alone in the US with a remote mic from within the crowd and with spotlight on him ... ...
You may hit me when I'm wrong, but that seems to me the joke of the day ...

Gotta agree; this sounds about as likely as Von reuniting with Gary, Ben (Gunn) and Craig to tour the world playing 127-minute versions of Adrenochrome.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I feel very confident in saying: that never happened.

The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one that removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are viable, that removes the sense that there is an outside.

Yeah, no.
I've lost count of the number of chancers I've had telling me tales of the time they nearly joined The Sisters or the time they saw The Sisters play live at such-and-such when the band were either somewhere else (they played a "secret gig in Leeds" while on tour in the US) or effectively non-existent (the story in the OP for example, but I've heard others).
It happens a lot in Leeds, but I've had it elsewhere too. People see a Sisters T-shirt and think you'll fall for any old nonsense. I can't imagine why.

The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

I used to know a guy in Dallas who liked to do that - "The Sisters only use a drum-machine on records! When they play live they use a real drummer! And guess what? I was almost that drummer! Yeah! Me! A guy whose entire life has been lived in the suburbs of Dallas!"markfiend wrote:Yeah, no.

It's a very odd phenomenon, and it is one I have only encountered in regard to the Sisters.

Mmmmm, we all know how much he loves mingling with the audience, publicly exposing himself, etc. Typical Von behaviour. Not like him at all to rather be hunched in a corner, twitching and shaking, mumbling into a mic. Not at all, oh no...Joy wrote:This behavior is very much like him…

Got a laugh from me, too. This would make a great scene for a US mini-series dramatisation of the The Life and Times of The Sisters of Mercy.Being645 wrote:In the late 1980s? Andrew Eldritch ... all alone in the US with a remote mic from within the crowd and with spotlight on him ... ...

It happened, me and (although he doesn't like talking about it) Bart were there.

I have heard this before...it is called too many drugs/drinks. I remember this one time when Patsy was slim, could actually play bass and hit the stage as a gogo dancer while this quartet provided the soundtrack to her funky moves..Lemmy on bass, Eldo on vocals, Keif Richards on guitar and Keith Moon on drums..... it was KILLER.....and I probably was around 16 years old..
