It sounds like these book author's events that they sign their books and have pictures with fans, not a concert gig. Was at this time mentioned used to promo tour an artist to sign autographs, have pics etc ?

Could be...think that was the time with some TV "shows". Think there was also some in Canada, Toronto...a video of this TV show sould exist, but I cant finde it....
