Comfortable 8th place finish. And indeed, I've won the work sweepstakes; £12 for Germany winning, £1.50 for a half-share of first-team-out for Australia, plus another £3 for Germany scoring the most goals. Yay!

Just quote Aussie Premier Bob Hawke's famous quote after they won the America's Cup : Any boss who sacks a worker for not turning up today is a bum. I'm sure this would stand up as a defence at a job tribunal or the European Court of Human Rights.

Is it just me or does Herr Loew bear a passing resemblance to :von: back in t' day with his square jawline and dark mop of hair ? I tried to find a pic of Loew in shades but to no avail, so looked for pics of him as a player for any tell-tale signs of gothdom. Sadly all I could find were shots of him with the kind of moustache popularised in the UK by style icon Terry from Brookside.
