The Word 'Grebo'

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

What ever happened to the word 'grebo'?
A sadly under-used and seemingly forgotten word.

Yeah. I haven't heard the word grebo, or the shortened version, 'greb' (rhymes with 'web') since I left school, seven years ago.

a shame. it was one of those words it was impossible to take offense at, so whenever scallies would shout it at me, it was like water off a duck's back.

I was reminded of the word yeterday when listening to "Oh Grebo I think I love you" the PWEI classic. Oh, heady days.

Grebo /'gro:beo/ n. (pl. -os) 1 a British urban youth cult favouring heavy metal and punk rock music, long hair, and an antisocial manner. 2 a member of this [perhaps from GREASER + -bo on the pattern of dumbo etc.]

Ahhh, Crazyhead. They were cool, now. Anyone know if it's possible to get Desert Orchid on CD these days? That cover of Bang Bang - simply wonderful.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I think it's deleted, but try www.netsounds.com. That's where I got mine & loads of other things I didn't have on CD.

My Dad says the word was in use in the 50's. Then it just referred to a greasy biker type. The music thing obviously came later.

Cue Twilight Zone theme... Yikes! I've been thinking about the word "grebo" since the weekend, when one of the DJs at my favorite haunt played PWEI's "Ich Bin ein Auslander". Bizarre. :von:
