wouldn't you just love a NEW banshees album?
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

putting a live track on Peepshow instead of the majestic "Sunless" is just.......MEH.

I think they already had it ready.Nikolas Vitus Lagartija wrote:Thanks for the heads up, @PiB and totally agree czuczu. Has it really taken them all this time to come up with this ?
Trouble is UMG originally put the brakes on the re-issues in 2010 because there wasn't enough extra material to justify 2 disc deluxe treatment.

and peepshow is definitely the very best of the ones on offer...possibly the very last GREAT banshees album.mh wrote:Looking forward to these, I'd begun to fear we'd never see Peepshow. Delighted now!

i would agree except it's not got Fat (thin then) Bob on guitar, and i still think that he was just meant to be in the banshees... so it has to be Nocturne cuz hyaena is patchy.Pista wrote:Their finest momentczuczu wrote:This thread made me listen to Juju.

They're all a bit patchy but McGeoch is where its at!eastmidswhizzkid wrote:i would agree except it's not got Fat (thin then) Bob on guitar, and i still think that he was just meant to be in the banshees... so it has to be Nocturne cuz hyaena is patchy.Pista wrote:Their finest momentczuczu wrote:This thread made me listen to Juju.
Gonna give Dreamhouse a spin today
I think it was Sioux who actually coined the phrase "Fat Bob"eastmidswhizzkid wrote:i would agree except it's not got Fat (thin then) Bob on guitar, and i still think that he was just meant to be in the banshees... so it has to be Nocturne cuz hyaena is patchy.Pista wrote:Their finest momentczuczu wrote:This thread made me listen to Juju.
The aforementioned Peepshow is up there for me. I suspect it probably gets an unfair hearing on account of the title track, but the rest of it is classic Banshees and their strongest since Juju IMO.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

i like peek-a-boo anyway. too many narrow minds when it comes to anything tried a little diferently. and anyway, any faults with that lp are more than compensated for by "scarecrow". in fact i reckon all the mistakes in their entire career are made up for with "scarecrow".mh wrote:The aforementioned Peepshow is up there for me. Add Rhapsody and you get a fourh.

If I had to choose I'd go for the McGeoch period too but the Banshees were very much like the Sisters in that they changed guitarists regularly and kept their sound fresh. All of them (McKay, McGeoch, Smith, Carruthers, Klein, Chandler) brought something different rather than merely aping their predecessors. This week is the 35th anniversary of Join Hands so I'm off to listen to side one of that.

Masses of Banshees, solo and Creatures live recordings on the audio section of this site: http://www.untiedundone.com/ Been steadily working my way through them at work these last few weeks, so these re-issues are timely for me, as each day sees me liking the band more.

Glad you like. If I don't get too interrupted at my desk, I can normally get through a solo & Creatures set by lunchtime, and a Banshees gig in the afternoon. My idea of a good working day.
