If I remember, it was that he had the record (not sure about two) even though he didn't have a record player. Despite that, he felt it was important to own the artefact as the song was, in his view, so good.

Love both those bands! The The are just so clever, when I listen to their music sometimes it seems they could have made a dozen more albums just from the ideas contained in one.

And Propaganda! Fantastic. I'm a big fan of the Human League as well, and I often listen to their music and Propaganda as counterpoints. There is some excellent electronic pop that fits outside the goth template, but has similar nuances - I know the likes of Ultravox have already been mentioned, but I get the same 'feeling' from some of the 80s 'mainstream' like Tears for Fears or Thompson Twins.

I don't know if everyone also gets that kind of gothic vibe from some reggae music as well - something like Sly & Robbie or Black Uhuru? I know I was a huge fan of reggae at the same time as I liked this other stuff when I was 18. In fact I rated pretty much 70% of what John Peel played - he was my musical educator.

Sorry to be obvious, but I would put some Pink Floyd on as well, and some of the darker Stones stuff too. And some Doors.
