This corrosion

In my imagination this song has not in fact ever ended. The choir just get more crazed & savage & start ripping each other's heads off. As the years go by younger members are drafted in to replace the fallen.
Fade outs have a lot to answer for.
@claws:
The choir at the start is fully intact.
From there, I've cut some of the beats and the "gimme gimme gimme the ring" bits, so the first verse comes in at about 0:50.
Then entire bit between the first and second verses has been dropped, and replaced with the chorus from after the second verse. The second verse now begins at the 2:20 mark.
This leaves the fade out starting after the first couple of "like a healing hands", about 6:20, and going to 6:44.
So unless you consider "gimme gimme gimme the ring now now now now" to be a vital part of the song, nothing essential has been cut. All the lyrics are fully intact, no cut-up lyrics, nothing like that.
It should be possible to get it to 6:15 or so by fading out quicker and dropping the repeat of the chorus before "I got nothing to say".

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

You are butchering a masterpiece! Stop now! Or I'm gonna cry.
mh has butchered it much more than I have. He's the bad guy!
And another thing: If there existed a perfect mix of "This corrosion" we wouldn't feel the need of doing this. But as almost everyone agrees about, there is no perfect mix.

Why??? What is wrong with you guys? When is *shorter* *better*???????Scardwel wrote:I wish someone would do the same with "More" - the album version tends to go on too long, but the 7" edit is too short...
More in it's 8 minute version is Wonderful!
I just don't get it. Andrew has a vision, and a sound running through his head. He records it in all its glory, and you guys want it shorter?
Which one of you would tell him that to his face? Who would send him your remix with a nice polite note stating hey, mate I think is a better mix, let's record it soon.??
Why second guess a genius? Why??????????
BP stomps off in exasperation!!
Shorter is better if it captures all the essential parts and not being long-winded. For example I like the Floodland version of "Lucretia my reflection" better than the ASCOOB version for this reason.

You are so wrong. And you picked wrong song to have *shorter*. Long Version of Lucretia is best--ASCOOB version. I love that song. To death. It is my favorite of all Andrew's work. What's best of it? The bass lines. They go on an on and on. It's wonderful. Absolute Heaven. And the lyrics...something very visceral about them. Especially for me, the
I don't feel part, and the parts about Lucretia herself.
Don't get me started on the Vid...Well let's just say, his use of India and the looms, gives you the vision of the Big Machine. Very Industrialist, but also....it captures the Two Worlds and In Between....in a modern sense. In a more historical sense, sans vid, I think the link between Lucretia, who for me represents Lucretia Borgia.... and now, is how treacherous governments, and lovers can be, as she was a very treacherous woman. Ok enough of my ramblings about Von.
I will take my long versions, of All Andrew's work. You guys can tinker with it all you want....
But you will never achieve Andrew's genius or greatness. That's why He's the Intellectual Love God........

Lucretia is a different kettle of fish altogether - I love the long versions of this song (it's my favourite track off of Floodland). The CD single version is the best, clocking in at 9 mins 52 secs (the one on ASCOOB is shorter, ending at 8 min 43 secs.)

Well, if we're seaking edits in general:
More:
I like the long version best, then the 7" version, the worst version is the American CD Single version I've got. I just fades out the long version after a few minutes.
Of the remix versions I like the radio mix the best but it's a bit too short, the groove mix and the other one (can't remember name) go on for a bit to long.
Lucretia:
Short or long, I like both.
Anyone like the 12" version of Dr Jeep? I love the false fade out.

Well, I've always stated a preference for the 7" Temple Of Love (original, not 92).Black Planet wrote:Why??? What is wrong with you guys? When is *shorter* *better*???????

I'd really love to you know. I do think it's a definite improvement. The song seems to me to be making it's point in a more concise manner without any of the extra waffle, and with nothing essential lost. I'd also love to make it generally available to people on here so we could get an overall opinion, but I don't really see that being possible.Black Planet wrote:Which one of you would tell him that to his face? Hmmmm, I love the long version of Lucretia too. I have good memories of listening to it on the train. It also reminds me a little of Long Train, in parts. Which is perhaps not surprising. Nice.
