Ticket Prices

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I'm off to a couple of concerts in March. Both at the same venue. Can anyone make sense of the pricing:

Dandy Warhols €20
Morrissey €63

Another price at the same venue for Korn is €40...but am not going.

Id imagine that all three bands have a distinct following and will sell enough tickets to fill a venue

Why the massive price difference? I could understand a few euros but double or even triple?

I would hazard a guess at it being the venue needing to recoup the cost of booking the act.
I guess tw@t face cat hat man demands a huge fee compared to the Dandy Warhols.

Yeah, they'll prolly all sell out the venue, but the venue's got to make money too.
Cheers.

But that extra 40 euros multiplied by 2000 would mean that mozz would receive 80000 more than the Dandys..

The Dandy Warhols gig seems incredibly cheap, whilst Mozza is not that much more than TSOM charge.
I know which gig will be a more positive experience :

I saw Daniel Kitson and Tim Key at the Old Vic in January, most expensive ticket was £16. Was about to buy tickets for the exact same seats for Kevin Spacey and found they were £125ea face value. No thanks!

I think I saw Dylan Moran for 30€, and opted out of seeing Russell Brand because the cheapest tickets were 50€ (and I don't particularly care about him).
Likewise, I think Bowie and Nick Cave tickets started at 60€, and frankly, I'm not willing to pay that much for any single artist.
Then again, I spent many years as a gig photographer so I'm spoiled by getting into a lot of shows "for free" (=in exchange for work, which was probably worth more than the ticket price anyway).

The difference in prices? Have you seen Moz's rider? Kobe Beef isn't cheap you know... especially when you need enough to fill a bathtub! :P

That sounds plausible.

Hasn't Morrissey had a cancer-scare recently? Maybe he's trying to cash in on one final tour before he retires.

Also, I believe he insists on a vat of mixed lentils.

He's had a few health scares lately I think.

On the other hand, I'd reckon that if he really wanted to cash-in he'd just do a Smiths reunion (Marr permitting, of course).
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Will never happen, and not from some petty prima donna attitude. He makes plenty of money from touring solo and receives plenty of adulation from the fans that are there. How could touring with The Smiths (at least one of which he hopes suffers badly at the hands of fate) top what he already has? And that's a non-verbatim summing up directly from his book.

I think I recall that Johnny Marr has also intimated that the likelihood of him ever appearing on-stage with Morrissey is significantly less than that of Mr Hussey rejoining the Sisters. (Not in those words, obviously.)

And of course, it's only about Morrissey & Marr, who gives a shït about the other two?

The sort of people who kick off when a band tours/records but not with the original line-up. I hate that, whingeing about line-ups, because if that's your criteria then your favourite band that's been going for a while must be U2.

Cocks.

It's not just about what the band/singer gets paid. A lot of the pricing for gigs comes down to the venue itself and what they reckon they can get away with charging for a particular artist. The same artist at two different venues can cost massively different prices (especially, in UK terms) if one of those venues is in London and one is anywhere else).
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Wow - a consensus of people agreeing with Morrissey, this is a strange place sometimes! The Smiths rhythm section were ace:

Clicky

Morrissey tickets have been massive overpriced for this current tour, his O2 show was almost £1 per minute (but the recent Johnny Marr tours have been great if you want to hear Smiths songs played properly)

That's prolly due to the venues having to take out an insurance policy in case he cancels :innocent:

At least Mozzer hasn't started doing those godawful meet n greet tickets yet, I despise those. At least Rihanna appears to give better value for money than Avril Lavigne....
