The edits discussing the 1986 demos, as well as the various posts of thanks have meant that the whole saga is a little difficult to follow.
In post #257 Taylor asks about 6 demos, which seems odd.
So far I have found 4 versions:
1:47
2:38 both were shared as I track
8:51
9:59 is the mh fanmix?
Am I missing one (or 3).
I'm also interested in the College Radio version whatever that is. Is it really some kind of pre-release version? Does it exist as a file sourced only from aircheck or is there a digital source?
Info needed on This Corrosion- Sisterhood & College Radi
6 tracks in the full version, only a very small number of people have it. (I'm not one of them.) It's one of those things you'll occasionally see listed as "not for swaps" or "will only swap for something of equal value".1 sung by James Ray
2 sung by James Ray and Andrew Eldritch
3 sung by James Ray
4 duet with Lucas Fox, Andrew Eldritch and James Ray
5 duet with Andrew Eldritch and James Ray
6 sung by Andrew Eldritch
Only 2 and a half versions are commonly available.
- a file that comes up on your audio player as lasting 7:12 but it cuts off at 4:25. (This will be the ones you list as 1:47 & 2:38 ). Probably version 1 & 2 (half of version 2!) in the above list.
- a file lasting 8:50. Probably version 6 in the above list.
The 9:59 is just a fanmix cobbled together from those 2 files. I think there was more than one fanmix on youtube at one point. I didn't bother keeping them.
I've been thinking about that thread. Does nobody find it suspicious that a new user (Eldorado) popped up, seemed technically inept but then quickly came up with an mp3, not bad quality too, then they vanished never to be seen again. Then there was a part of the file that was blank (all zeros when I checked in a hex editor). How did someone manage to do that accidentally??? It doesn't take Sherlock to deduce that Eldorado was someone who didn't want to break their word with whoever they got the tape from so put on a mask to give us the goods, albeit a small part. Thanks though, whoever you were!
As for the College Radio track. Supposedly it was aired on US College radio in (I think)May'87.
Is it not available on a boot? Or is it one of the "uber rare" ones nobody will part with?
Pretty sure I have it on a tape somewhere (not from any of the rare traders either so I wouldn't be breaking any promises if I posted it... unless someone wants to give me one of the other demos to make me keep my gob shut. ), I'll see if I can find it (don't hold your breath though, it was in the middle of a compilation and I've not seen the tape for years). I don't remember it being radically different from the released version.

Dan: you're not the only one who finds the whole thing suspicious.
Wasn't there a suspicion that "Eldorado" (whoever they were) was an ex (or something) and had actually stolen the tape from Eric (aka James Ray)?
I think I recall as well that someone at some point suggested that Eldorado actually was James Ray using a second nick to avoid suspicion, but a lot of the thread descended into acrimony and most of the harsher stuff was pruned and deleted.

The 8:51 (I think) and 9:59 were mine. I definitely did two fanmixes, with the longer one being an attempt to structure it similar to the 12" or LP version.
A well-intentioned but ultimately misguided attempt at having some fun with the versions that got released, and making them available for folks, which got out of hand and those became reasonably common variants on YouTube, etc. It was clear at the outset that they were never anything more, but then the internet got hold of them and things took their inevitable course. The lesson has been learned.
Some bell in the back of my mind is telling me that the released versions were the "corrupt" MP3 (abrupt cut-off, zeroed at the end) and a 6 minute something version. But I really can't recall too well.
IIRC there was also a rumour that the user Eldorado was Carl Harrison, but never confirmed.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Wasn't "Eldorado" the french girl from Paris? Who won Andrew's "Dominon" suit in Fat Pat's eBay auction and then posted the racy pics of her wearing said garb?markfiend wrote:Wasn't there a suspicion that "Eldorado" (whoever they were) was an ex (or something) and had actually stolen the tape from Eric (aka James Ray)?
I don't think "Eldorado" was Carl. Carl was possibly another user name, but this is now ringing a bell. Didn't "someone" share a house with Eric, and then Eric moved out? And the "someone" found a shed load of demo tapes in a box in the attic?mh wrote:IIRC there was also a rumour that the user Eldorado was Carl Harrison, but never confirmed.
I'm pretty sure Eric was even on here demanding them back.
It could be the same person, but my memory is hazy.

You lot are a lost cause.
I knew this thread would get derailed fast. Nutters.
Which mix did Carl Harrison upload - as it would seem to be the ONLY actual version out there?
Did anyone think ask about the unreleased mixes of Mexico Sundown Blues?

I knew someone here made the 9:59. The 8:51 though is real. It was posted at around the same time by another member of the forum who was a member of James Ray's band (or claimed to be) who also had a copy of the tape. Rumour is he was told to "stop it" by the man himself before he had time to give us the other tracks.mh wrote:The 8:51 (I think) and 9:59 were mine.
Quiffy can see the ip's so he probably knows more, though I bet he won't tell!

no, it was a mash up of an edited version of one of the demos . that's the Carl (@diddley2) one which appeared just before XmasDan wrote:I know someone here made the 9:59. The 8:51 though is real. outside of the six studio versions already cited, there are also earlier versions (home recordings if you will)

No, there are 2 and a half versions, pay attention.Gaijin wrote:Which mix did Carl Harrison upload - as it would seem to be the ONLY actual version out there?

I was paying attention - and had to read a bunch of balony. A 1 & 2 minute excerpt do not comprise full versions.Dan wrote:No, there are 2 and a half versions, pay attention.Gaijin wrote:Which mix did Carl Harrison upload - as it would seem to be the ONLY actual version out there?

My copy of the 8:51 version is timestamped December 2006. At the time it was posted there was nothing to mash up. Even Eldorado didn't post her 1 and a half versions until Jan 2007.
And the 8:51 version.Gaijin wrote:I was paying attention - and had to read a bunch of balony. So only the 1 minute version is a complete, accurate representation of what was on the tape? All the others are incomplete, edited or faked.

NO!Gaijin wrote:So only the 1 minute version as an actual, accurate representation of what was on the tape? All the others are incomplete, edited or faked.
The 4:25 file is track 1 and half of track 2.
The 8:51 is track 6.
They're both genuine.
Then there's a 9:59 fan-made thing.
Pib said the 8:51 version is a mash-up but as the 8:51 version was the FIRST track to appear there was nothing in common circulation for anyone to mash up.

No, the 1:47 and 2:38 are genuine and were shared as a single file.
The 8:51 is also genuine but was shared separately and by a different forum member.
Anything else isn't genuine.

Being obtuse is no help Dan - the 8:51 is not an original version - it's a mashup shared by Carl Harrision. The 2 minute version is a part of a 6 minute version and is incomplete. the 10 minute version was made by mh.
Which is the only version that appeared on this forum as it did on the tape? The one minute version...
I wish it wasn't so, but them's the breaks.

On p.4 Taylor refers to it as a "disco remix" so maybe it is a mashup?
Still, even if it is a mashup (or maybe we're misunderstanding taylor's cryptic remark?) then it'd be composed of recordings we're unlikely to hear in another form so I'll take that over nothing. Anyone else can choose nothing if they prefer.
